‘Pretty Little Liars’ Actresses Choose Clever Matching Tattoos To ‘Commemorate The Show’

The Pretty Little Liars actresses choose to pay tribute to their time on the popular TV series with matching tattoos, revealing their witty marks during the last days of filming this week.

In a nod to their iconic opening title sequence, the pretty little liars decided to get matching tattoos on their right index finger. Each woman used the first initial of their character’s name for the tattoo, immortalizing their Rosewood characters.

All of the pretty little liars — Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis), Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields), Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin), Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery), and Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings) — took to social media to share their emotions heading into the final day of filming, People reported earlier this week.

In addition to those emotional farewells was a close-up of the tattoos the Pretty Little Liars actress received. Lucy Hale — who shared the photograph on Instagram — explained the tattoos were meant to “commemorate the show! And obviously on our ‘shh’ finger.”

The actresses shared a close bond, yet that bond extended beyond their small circle according to showrunner I. Marlene King. In comments she shared with Cosmopolitan, the executive producer of Pretty Little Liars opened up about the end of the series and what the all of the actors and actresses have meant to her and fans at large.

“[When filming ends] tears will be spilled, gifts will be exchanged, and final memories will be made. The most meaningful gift, however, is that we call ourselves ‘PLL Family’ because that is how much we mean to each other. We have created a worldwide family of fans who have come together to watch and celebrate the show. Friendships have been made and sealed over the love our passionate fans have for ‘PLL’… Thank you to the cast, the crew, and all the fans who have kept Rosewood alive; we would be nowhere without you. And as this chapter ends, to my ‘PLL’ family all over the world, I won’t say good-bye, I’ll say, ‘See you soon, b—-es.'”

One of the most heartfelt goodbyes came from Shay Mitchell. The Pretty Little Liars actress shared a nine-minute YouTube video with her fans filled with plenty of tears and breathy pauses. In between — Entertainment Tonight noted — was some warm thoughts and wishes Shay Mitchell shared with fans that are also upset the seven-year run for the series is nearly over.

“I got to watch our cast grow and flourish, not only as actors, but as people. People who have found love and success and people who make me a better, more understanding person… Emily, Hanna, Alison, Aria and Spencer have now gone where all beloved characters go when people stop writing for them: The end. …I’d like to think that somewhere in an alternate Rosewood universe, that these five women will always remain a constant in each others’ lives, just as I hope we all do in our own reality.”

The emotional Pretty Little Liars goodbyes weren’t exclusively from the women on the TV show. Ian Harding — who played Ezra Fitz — also spoke about how hard it was leave his “first job,” Entertainment Weekly reported earlier this week.

“This was like my first job right out of college… I’ve been able to grow as a person on this show, and it’s meant a lot. It is so painful to say goodbye, and I always find that humor is the best way to get around that, to push your feelings down and don’t deal with them.”

Pretty Little Liars returns to Freeform in April 2017 for the final episodes of its seven-season run.
