Martin Sheen and Woody Harrelson are set to star in a new film that explores the controversial “9/11 Truther” movement which suggests, among other things, that the September 11 attacks were elaborately staged by the US government rather than the terrorist group Al-Qaeda.
The film, titled September Morn, will explore some of the theories proposed by the Truther movement which allege a government conspiracy or cover-up of the World Trade Center attacks. Early publicity for the film offers some hints as to the film’s format and themes:
“We the people demand that the government revisits and initiates a thorough and independent investigation to the tragic events of 9/11. In the vein of ‘Twelve Angry Men’ this dramatic piece is set with a stellar and award winning cast.”
Judd Nelson, Ed Asner, and Esai Morales are also signed on for the film, reports Yahoo! Movies. Hollywood films dealing with the September 11 attacks have generally shied away from conspiracy or partisan politics, and September Morn will be the first mainstream drama film to give credence and legitimacy to the 9/11 Truther movement.
Both Sheen and Harrelson have previously suggested that they believe government involvement or conspiracy are possible. “I did not want to believe that my government could possibly be involved in such a thing, I could not live in a country that I thought could do that – that would be the ultimate betrayal,” said Sheen during a 2007 interview. “However, there have been so many revelations that now I have my doubts, and chief among them is Building 7 – how did they rig that building so that it came down on the evening of the day?,” Sheen asked, referring to 7 World Trade Center, which is cited as evidence of conspiracy by the Truthers.
According to TheaterMania, the script was penned by Howard Cohen while B.J. Davis is set to direct.
