Dolores Catania Talks Danielle Staub: The Shocking Truth Behind ‘RHONJ’ Casting

Dolores Catania just wrapped her first season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and it was relatively easy for her. Dolores wasn’t caught up in the drama that plagued the ladies on this season of the show, even though she did feel burned by Jacqueline Laurita near the end of the season. Even though Catania only started filming this season, she’s actually been in Bravo‘s spotlight for quite some time. And the producers wanted to get her on the show right from the very beginning. As it turns out, Dolores turned down the role on the show and it went to someone else – someone who made the show crazy.

According to a new OMJ report, Dolores Catania is now revealing that she turned down the role on the first season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Danielle Staub took over her role. Dolores has been friends with Teresa Giudice for years, but she had no interest in filming the show when the producers came with an offer during the show’s first season. Instead, Teresa filmed the show with Caroline Manzo, Dina Manzo, Jacqueline Laurita and Danielle.

“It wasn’t my time. My children were little at the time and they were at an age when they needed me, and the first season of Housewives was taking a lot from everybody because it was huge,” Dolores Catania explains about her role on the show, according to OMJ, adding, “I was at a place in time that I was just like not sure about it because I was the single girl on the show and the way they were producing back then was not going to put me in a very good light. That was a parental decision for me. And they scrambled around to find someone.”

When Dolores Catania turned down the role, producers quickly started looking for a replacement. And Catania reveals that producers found Danielle at the Chateau salon in Franklin Lakes, a salon that has been on The Real Housewives of New Jersey several times. While you may not have realized it, Dolores Catania has made several appearances throughout the seasons since 2009.

Of course, the ladies have found fame and fortune by filming The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Dolores has been following the ladies and the drama since 2009. Catania has been watching the show over the past many seasons and she understands what the ladies have gone through. Catania has been friends with Teresa for years, so one can imagine that she may have sided with Giudice throughout the years, including over her drama with Danielle. But as fans learned near the season finale this year, Catania is also close with Jacqueline.

“I was watching them up-and-coming in this fame and it could have been me, so I forget what season it was was, but I was like ‘I’m ready now,'” Dolores Catania explains of her watching the show after she turned the down role, adding, “And the Catskills episode, which is one of the most watched episodes, I could have been on then, but they casted differently. With everything that I’ve gone through over all these years and all that time, I can talk about a lot of things that are very relatable to people watching. It’s a time in my life where my kids are grown, its a pivotal time for me.”

What do you think of Dolores Catania giving up her role on The Real Housewives of New Jersey during the show’s first season, and Danielle Staub taking on the role from her? Do you think the show would have been totally different if Dolores took on the role instead of Danielle on the first season of the show?
