‘Ghostbusters 3’ Reportedly Moving Ahead, Director Courting 2013 Start Date

Like it or not, Ghostbusters 3 is rumored to be heading towards production next year, according to Ace Showbiz. Every so often, news of the project pops up like a cold sore, causing much irritation and plenty of agony for fanboys across the globe. Although the film has been in the works for what seems like ages now, the project could finally be headed to the big screen.

Should Ghostbusters 3 actually come to fruition, the film could see the inside of a movie theater in 2014. Coincidentally, that’s the same year the original Ghostbusters flick will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Perhaps an injection of cinematic nostalgia in the form of a special edition Blu-ray set will elicit tidy box office results.

Coming Soon reports that, at one point in time, the proposed motion picture would follow the adventures of the original team as they turned over the business to a young group of Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd once dished on what would become of the franchise’s iconic heroes.

“My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the Cadillac,” Aykroyd explained. “He’s got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs … Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation.”

Rumors surrounding who would star in the project have been swirling since the 90s. At one point in time, the reboot would have starred Chris Farley, Ben Stiller, and Chris Rock. In 2009, Judd Apatow’s alleged involvement as producer prompted many to believe that Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen would take over the reins. Of course, whenever a new Ghostbusters 3 rumor pops up, most fans just roll their eyes and sigh audibly.

After years of production problems and numerous internet rumors, do you think the world really needs Ghostbusters 3?
