Best Horror Movies On Netflix: New Original Stephen King Movie ‘1922’ To Star Thomas Jane

Some of the best horror movies are on Netflix, and many of them are by Stephen King. And now the film adaptation of King’s horror novella 1922 is going to be added to the list of Netflix original movies. This is not the only work by King to be a Netflix original film; Gerald’s Game is currently in production. Netflix original movies are either hit or miss, with little in between. Most felt that The Ridiculous 6 was ridiculously bad, while The Fundamentals of Caring received critical acclaim. But with films being made based on the work by the “Master of Horror,” these additions may become two of the best horror movies on Netflix.

The Plot

This short story is based in 1922 and is narrated by the character of Wilfred. He confesses to killing his wife (Arlette) and believes he is being haunted. As the story unravels, one has to question if he is going insane or if he is telling the truth. It is a dark, terrifying, twisted read that is absolutely compelling.

Casting For 1922

Although it is not clear when this film will hit Netflix, the casting has been revealed. As Screenrant accounted, two big names have been added to the cast in Stephen King’s 1922.

“…Thomas Jane (Hung) has signed on to play Wilfred, while House of Cards actress Molly Parker will take on the role of Arlette. Additional casting includes Kaitlyn Bernard (The Healer), Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight), Neal McDonough (Arrow), and Dylan Schmid (Horns). Production is currently underway in Vancouver, with the movie being written and directed by Zak Hilditch (These Final Hours).”

Thomas Jane previously starred in two Stephen King movies: Dreamcatcher and The Mist. Although most didn’t like the former, the latter was very popular, and King himself even approved. Audiences can now look forward to two King movies being released exclusively on Netflix.

Stephen King Movies Currently on Netflix

Mercy

A mother and her two children help take care of their grandmother who has supernatural powers. This film is loosely based on King’s short story Gramma.

A Good Marriage

This dramatic thriller is one of the most underrated movies on Netflix. The screenplay was written by “The Master of Horror,” and it shows. Many were disappointed with this film primarily because they felt there was a lack of chemistry between the actors. Others found this picture quite pleasing. Audiences shouldn’t watch this expecting a horror story, but rather a slow-build psychological thriller.

Thinner

If you go into this movie realizing you aren’t going to like any of the characters, then you will probably enjoy this tale. But if you are looking for a story with a redeemable character, you’re not going to find it here.

Cujo

If you have ever wondered how dangerous a St. Bernard would be after contracting rabies, then Cujo will answer your curiosity. Considered a success by both critics and horror fans alike, Netflix subscribers will enjoy revisiting this ’80s classic.

Children of the Corn

Stephen King’s name is synonymous with horror movies of the ’80s: Cujo, The Shining, Silver Bullet, The Dead Zone, and Children of the Corn, among many others. This film is just as creepy today as it was when it first came out. Isaac deserves to be mentioned among horror icons like Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger because he is absolutely unnerving.
