Willie Nelson Has Haters? Country Legend Gets Mean Tweets

It’s hard to believe that country legend Willie Nelson gets mean tweets since he often flies under the radar and doesn’t cause any controversy. Willie himself is an advocate for peace, but even this beloved man has his share of haters.

In honor of the Country Music Awards on Wednesday night, Nov. 2, Willie Nelson went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to read some of his own mean tweets. But, not everyone is a fan of the country music legend, as reported in Time. People have been using the social media site to insult everyone under the sun, including Willie Nelson.

The country crooner was shocked when he read the following tweet, “Willie Nelson, you’re getting pretty crusty pal.” Nelson then looked at the camera and gave a funny expression. Check out his hilarious reaction in the video below.

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel Live aired the first episode of a special two-show tribute to the 2016 CMA Awards. Following the ceremony, Kimmel continued the 2016 CMAs coverage with another appearance by Nelson. Willie also made an appearance in Kimmel’s “Ridiculous Questions.” In two new clips, Nelson and Kimmel drink Crown Royal inside a bar and throw one-liners at each other.

They pressed funny questions such as, “What would you really say to all the girls you’ve loved before?”

Nelson laughed and said, “Oh my God, how much time do we got?”

“What about a blanket statement for all of them?” Kimmel then asked.

“Thank you very much,” Nelson said with a huge smile on his face.

Nelson then asked Kimmel if he’s “heard about the skeleton that went into the bar and ordered a beer and a mop.”

Nelson previously appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in October, as reported by Rolling Stone Country. Before performing on the late-night talk show, Nelson invited the talk show host on his bus. In the clip, seen below, Fallon is obviously very excited to be on Nelson’s bus. Then he realizes that Nelson hasn’t spoken a word the entire time.

After Fallon has a conversation with himself about having dinner after the show, Nelson exhales a puff of smoke in his guest’s face.

“How about Mexican?” he added as Fallon coughs up a storm.

The clip comes two weeks after Nelson performed for Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe on the same bus while Nelson was visiting the northern half of the state to play Farm Aid. A photo surfaced of the pair’s encounter showing McAuliffe, who is a staunch opponent of marijuana legalization, – unaware of Nelson’s marijuana sitting next to his elbow. Also in the photo was a pot grinder and an ashtray.

Nelson is obviously an activist for marijuana legalization. He also has his own Willie Reserve marijuana brand. In an interview with Cannabist, Nelson reflected on his relationship with pot and the first time he smoked it.

“I think I was probably 19 or 20 years old playing in bars in Fort Worth, and I ran into a guy who smoked pot and I’d never smoked it before. I smoked (weed) for a long time without getting high — for months I would smoke and smoke and I wasn’t getting high, and I couldn’t figure out why. And then one day I did and I said, ‘Oh OK, that’s what it’s all about.’ But I guess I’d smoked so much other stuff, cigarettes and things, that my lungs weren’t in great shape.”

Nelson also quashed the rumors that he smokes it for pleasure, arguing that it’s a form of medicine for him.

“It’s medicine, and it’s already been proven to be medicine. End of story. I had emphysema, had all kinds of different health problems caused by drinking and smoking. So I decided I wasn’t getting high from smoking cigarettes, and I had a pack of Chesterfields, so I took them all out, threw them away, rolled up 20 big, fat numbers, stuck them into the Chesterfield pack and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since. And that’s been 30, 40 years ago.”

While Nelson will have the occasional glass of wine, he has given up on drinking. When it comes to his preference of smoking weed to vaporizing cannabis oil, he says he enjoys doing both while cracking a smile.
