FBI Arrests Suspect In Terror Plot To Blow Up The Federal Reserve Bank In NYC

The FBI arrested a terror suspect who was allegedly attempting to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City. Preliminary reports note the Middle Eastern man is 21-years-old and attempted to set off a van he thought was filled with explosives via a cell phone detonator. The suspect’s “explosives” were actually provided by an undercover FBI agent that he connected with online.

The terror suspect allegedly stated that his original target was not the Federal Reserve Bank but President Barack Obama, according to breaking news reports on Fox. The suspect attracted the attention of federal law enforcement after posting information about Jihad online. Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis allegedly thought the undercover federal agent was a committed accomplice who was going to help him detonate a 1,000-pound bomb in Lower Manhattan, not far from Ground Zero, according to CNN.

Nafis reportedly met with the undercover agent on Wednesday morning. After the face-to-face meeting where the alleged terrorist thought he had received the explosives needed to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank, the pair traveled to a nearby warehouse. Nafis allegedly told the agent that he had a “Plan B” to use if he felt the police were onto him. The suspect allegedly stated the backup plan involved a suicide bombing operation.

As the pair of men drove to the NYC bank, the suspect allegedly connected a detonator to the presumed explosives. After the van was parked in a prime location to cause significant damage to the structure, the undercover agent and the suspect went to a nearby hotel. While inside the hotel, the suspected made a video recording intended to be shared with the public after the explosion, according to criminal complaint excerpts.

Updates will be added to this breaking news story as information becomes available.
