A Denver bar fire in which five people were ultimately discovered dead after the blaze was set likely was started to conceal multiple murders, police have confirmed.

The Denver bar fire occurred at Fero’s Bar and Grill on South Colorado Boulevard, where a call to police just before closing time at 2 am Wednesday alerted authorities to the blaze. Firefighters responding to the scene of the Denver bar fire made the gruesome discovery of five bodies inside, including four women and one man.

However, little has been confirmed by authorities about the Denver bar fire or the circumstances leading up to it, and in a televised press briefing by police early today, Commander Ronald Saunier told residents what is known about the blaze — including that the cause of death for those killed was not fire-related:

“The business has obviously been set on fire, an arson, I’m guessing, to mask the homicide that occurred inside … There is just trauma, enough information to believe that we have a homicide that occurred here. They didn’t perish in the fire.”
