Weather Could Spoil the Final ODI, Leaving the Series Undecided

New Zealand are looking for their first-ever victory in a bilateral ODI series on Indian soil, and are coming off a 1-1 series draw in South Africa, and a three-match blanking by India in the Test series that immediately preceded the ODI showdown.

But India’s fortunes in the one-day format have been even more dismal in recent months. Since the end of 2014, other than a victory over struggling Zimbabwe, India remains winless in ODI bilateral series competition. That record has left Captain MS Dhoni under pressure in India after his team was defeated by Bangladesh and Australia away, and home against South Africa.

The only thing that could stand in the way of what promises to be a tightly contested fifth ODI is the weather. Cyclone Kyant had been bearing down on Vizag for the past few days — but at latest report, the storm had subsided and the game should be able to proceed without too much trouble.

Here’s a video preview of the big match, courtesy of Cricket Country.

Vizag has seen five ODI matches since ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium opened in 2003. India have won four of those games while losing just one.
