Shannon Noll: Why Reality TV Shows Are Dangerous For Young Singers

Shannon Noll is perhaps best known as a finalist on the first season of Australian Idol, a popular reality television show in which talented singers compete to achieve a breakthrough in their music career. The singer created Australian music history by delivering 10 consecutive songs that topped the music charts. Additionally, his stint on Australian Idol enabled him to launch himself into the music industry by signing a record deal with Sony BMG.

Today, Shannon Noll is a leading Australian singer who’s reached great heights: he’s produced five albums, two of which have become multi-platinum. Additionally, the popular singer has been welcomed by Australia’s veteran musicians who are keen to work with the “C’Mon Aussie C’Mon” singer. Music Feeds reports that Shannon Noll will soon be teaming up with John Farnham, a veteran Australian singer, to entertain Australian fans with their “Red Hot Summer Tour” in 2017.

As part of the tour, the two musicians will perform at various concerts in several cities across Australia. Moreover, Shannon Noll will perform with other popular musicians, including James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, and Taxiride.

There’s no doubt that Australian Idol proved to be an effective platform for the singer to launch his career. However, Shannon Noll has stated that he’s not happy with the way today’s reality television shows are evolving, and he believes the latest format of the show places more importance on the judges rather than it does on the talented singers.

He’s quite troubled when judges casually label the naive contestants as superstars to promote their own ventures. The singer has seen a very clear shift in focus in respect to the show’s purpose, and in his opinion, the show revolves around the judges rather than the young contestants who are easily overwhelmed by the compliments they receive.

Shannon Noll’s greatest concern is the young winners and how they’ll handle failure if their music career fails to launch after winning the show. There have been earlier instances where winners of televised music competitions have faced huge disappointment when their songs failed to make it to the top of the charts.

Reality show winners like Alfie Arcuri, Ellie Drennan, and Casey Donavan have all struggled to establish themselves after their career failed to receive the much required “flying start.” According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Shannon Noll spoke about the disappointment the winners face after their glory fades and they disappear from the public eye.

“I’ve sort of been through the highs and the lows of it and it’s hard until you get there to be able to handle the part where people don’t give a sh*t about you anymore all of a sudden.”

Even Shannon himself faced the prospect of quitting when he was struggling and working so hard to stay relevant in the music industry. However, the singer’s popularity can be attributed to the younger generation who turned him into an internet star by featuring him in popular internet memes.

However, Shannon Noll wants his fans to know more about his true self rather than admiring his pop star image. To get this project off the ground, the singer is launching Who I Am, and upcoming album featuring the newly-released title song, which Noll hopes will shed light on his journey to stardom. According to News Australia, Shannon Noll revealed that most songs on his upcoming album will help fans understand more about the singer from a different perspective.

“The new songs are different in the sense they are very current sounding and the message is a celebration of who I am and where I come from, and also the passion I have for the country I live in.”
