Mariah Carey Dumped James Packer Because He’s ‘Not Mentally Healthy’ — She And Nick Cannon Getting Back Together For The Kids?

Mariah Carey’s breakup from fiance James Packer is getting uglier by the day.

According to Carey’s rep, Mariah dumped the wealthy businessman because he was mentally unstable and wasn’t always present for her and the kids, as reported by People.

“James has not been in a mentally healthy place and has not been present for Mariah or her family.” the source said. “His behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah so she unfortunately had to leave him.”

Mariah Carey’s rep confirmed to People that her relationship with Packer started to deteriorate after their Greece vacation last month, several months after they got engaged. They haven’t seen each other since, and the split wasn’t caused by cheating or Mariah’s lavish lifestyle, contrary to reports by various media outlets.

“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah,” the rep said.

James Packer’s rep denied the allegations made by Carey’s camp, telling People that it’s typical of Carey to “twist things that don’t sound good to her.” The rep added that they split because “she has issues.”

“James is all about business and making money,” the source added, pointing out that Carey’s overspending had been unsavory for Packer despite his billionaire status “Some of Mariah’s eccentric ways, especially her spending habits, caused drama. James is the most generous person ever, but he definitely doesn’t agree with senseless spending.”

James’s rep dug deeper into Carey’s past to gain an advantage in the venomous exchange, pointing out the mental breakdowns the Billboard chart topper has had in the past.

“James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy. Mariah has had mental breakdowns in the past. She hasn’t been acting very mentally stable lately. To put her issues on James is ridiculous,” the rep added.

Carey’s rep said that the claim made about the state of Mariah Carey’s mental stability are “comical,” pointing out that the singer is “having the most productive year” with her Vegas residency as well as her upcoming shows.

Packer, 49, and Carey got engaged in January of this year. The proposal took place in Carey’s hometown in New York, where James presented her with a 35-carat diamond engagement ring. They made their carpet debut as a couple in September at the Intern premiere in New York City.

Mariah was previously married to America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon, with whom she shares two lovely kids — twins Morrocan and Monroe.

Speaking of Cannon, his dad, James, recently told Hollywood Life that Carey and Nick are “still very close” and “still have a lot of love for one another.” In fact, he said that “they have already picked out their Halloween costumes, for both them and the kids, and this is a fun thing that they like to do together.”

“Both Nick and Mariah have busy schedules, but they will be doing their best to spend time with the kids over the holidays,” added James. “I am proud of them as a couple and the way they have handled all the media speculation that constantly surrounds them.”

With Halloween just a few days away, it certainly makes sense for Carey and Cannon to have a get-together with the kids. There’s nothing out of the ordinary about them trick-or-treating with their kids on Halloween — they’ve done the same thing numerous times in the past even as ex-couples. But considering Carey’s emotions are in a fragile state on account of her split with James, it sure begs the question: Will this lead to her and Nick getting back together?
