Did ‘American Horror Story’ Copy ‘The Walking Dead’ Negan Scene? [Video]

American Horror Story aired on FX Wednesday, three nights after The Walking Dead shocked the world with their Season 7 premiere featuring Negan violently beating the heads off of two major characters. But the latest episode of American Horror Story, and the episode before it, has featured a few jabs that have been directly pointing at The Walking Dead.

This is the part of the article where we need to warn you that there are spoilers for Episodes 6 and 7 of American Horror Story, as well as spoilers for Episode 1 for Season 7 of The Walking Dead, coming ahead. If you have not watched those episodes yet and don’t wish for them to be spoiled for you, then you should proceed with that caution in mind.

On October 19, American Horror Story aired the sixth episode for Roanoke, which featured a title board at the beginning of the series claiming that the fictional docudrama, My Roanoke Nightmare, had beaten all other shows in the ratings in October of 2015, including The Walking Dead.

That was the first time that American Horror Story had featured a jab at AMC’s biggest show on television. But it seems as though producers for the show were not even close to being done with taunting The Walking Dead.

In last night’s American Horror Story on FX, according to Entertainment Weekly, the episode featured Shelby and Matt in distress throughout. But near the end of the episode, Matt had told her that he only came back for the evil witchy character that had once been played by Lady Gaga.

Suffice it to say that Shelby was more than just enraged about that, considering she only signed up to do the Return To Roanoke: Three Days In Hell show in order to save her marriage to Matt. When Matt walked past her to chase after the witchy woman, Shelby used a crowbar to smash his skull in. But not just one quick hit. No, it was more like a total mutilation of Matt’s head.

Does anybody think that American Horror Story scene sounds familiar? Of course you do. That’s because you already saw it last Sunday night when The Walking Dead returned to AMC for its highly-anticipated Season 7 opener.

For those who have been living in Antarctica over the past four days, Negan was last seen in Season 6 swinging a bat on a main character on The Walking Dead, but no one knew who it was. But what was abundantly clear was that Negan had savagely beaten someone to death with his bat by repeatedly issuing savage blows to the person’s head.

So that has to make fans of The Walking Dead wonder if that specific episode of American Horror Story was not planned that way, to be specifically timed to coincide with the same scene that occurred on The Walking Dead just three nights prior.

There is no doubt that producers for American Horror Story knew what was going to happen on the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, given that the show producers had already come out and confirmed the intensely gruesome nature of the Season 7 premiere, although fans already knew they would see it happen.

As a matter of fact, the only thing that American Horror Story and The Walking Dead fans didn’t know was who the victim was. There was no doubt that it was going to be brutal though. So it might be reasonable to assume that American Horror Story producers were attempting to capitalize on that momentum with having a scene that is not only equally shocking and identical, but also a scene that showed the details in such a graphic way. Maybe it was a way for American Horror Story to ride The Walking Dead coattails for a week, or maybe two.
