Jon Bon Jovi Blames Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Boss For Annual Snub

Jon Bon Jovi says his band was once again snubbed for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors because a bigwig on the board has a personal vendetta against him. In an interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show, the Bon Jovi frontman revealed that a few key members of the organization’s voting board have made it “their personal mission” to keep his band from being inducted. Bon Jovi told Stern that he had a big falling out with a Rock Hall boss and that the bad blood continues.

“I had a big falling out with one of the guys that runs (the hall),” Jon revealed.

“I called [the guy] a few choice words. And I’m never shy, when I see him, to call him a few more choice words. And there’s other guys on that thing that have made it their personal mission to f**k with me. And that’s okay. I get it. I’ve sold more records than their artists.”

Jon went on to explain that his band has all of the criteria required for Rock Hall honors, but that “these two f**kers in the room” just won’t vote for his band’s inclusion.

“The criteria is actually that your music had an influence on generations that came after you, and that it’s still out and very present. Yeah, we have every criteria,” Jon Bon Jovi said.

While Jon Bon Jovi did not confirm if Rolling Stone publisher and Rock Hall chairman Jann Wenner was the man behind the snub, he did not deny it either. Wenner has long been a controversial figure in the organization, and earlier this year, 977 Rocks reported that rock legend Steve Miller called for his resignation as chairman of the board, a position he has held since 1983.

“It’s so poorly run from the top,” Miller said. ” Y’know, Jann needs to be removed. He needs to give it up. He needs to pass it on to other people. It’s not his private little world to play with.”

Bon Jovi celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2009, making them eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as of that year. The New Jersey rockers have sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and have only been nominated for the Rock Hall honor one time, in 2011, when they lost out to eventual inductees Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, and Darlene Love. Jon Bon Jovi’s band has not turned up on the ballot since.

For 2017, Bon Jovi was beat out for possible inclusion into the Rock Hall by a list of nominees that includes Pearl Jam, Journey, J. Geils Band, Electric Light Orchestra, Janet Jackson, The Cars, and Tupac Shakur. The inductees will be announced in December.

While Jon Bon Jovi seems to have made peace with the fact that his band was snubbed yet again, he previously told Larry King that it would be nice to be part of the elite club but that he’s also happy with some of his band’s other honors.

“It would be nice to be in a club with Elvis and the Beatles and the Stones,” Jon admitted to King in 2010.

“We’re in the songwriters’ hall of fame. I was honored to be inducted. That’s special because it’s more than going up and saying we sold X amount of records. These were the songs that Richie (Sambora) and I wrote that we were recognized by our peers.”

Jon Bon Jovi previously said he’s not counting on ever getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“In all honesty, would be nice, but I’m not counting on it. I wouldn’t think that that necessarily would be so, and we’ll probably be one of the only bands that sold over a hundred million records and don’t get in. So we’ll see, but I’m, I’m not gonna hold my breath,” Jon said in 2013, according to B1027.

Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora added that while he thinks the band deserves to be in there, he doesn’t know if they’ll ever get in.

“Yeah, I think we deserve to be in there,” Sambora said. “Do I think we’re gonna get in? Don’t know. It’s definitely a political situation. It’s almost like running for office over there. I mean there are so many bands that should be in there that are not in there. So you never know what’s going to happen.”

Bon Jovi’s new album, This House Is Not for Sale, will be released Nov. 4.
