19 kids in hatchback

Who needs a bus when you have a hatchback? A teacher in South Africa stuffed 19 of her nursery school students into her hatchback to make a trip to a local burger joint for lunch.

According to Jalopnik, Melanie Minnie was pulled over by police in South Africa when authorities noticed that she had six children in the back of Renault Clio. Upon closer inspection police counted 10 children in the back seat and another three on the front seat.

Minnie said that her kids were hungry and she decided to take them out to lunch. The nursery school teacher said that it was the first time, and the last time, that she would try to fit 19 kids into hatchback. The Renault Clio, by the way, is designed to seat about five people.

Minnie told the South African paper Beeld:

“This is the first time we went on an outing – and the last time. I will never do that again.”

The NY Daily News reports that Minnie was fined $60 for overstuffing her car with students.

  1. when does 10 kids in the back plus 3 in the front equal 19? They thought there were 6 in the back, but found out there were 10, 3 in the front. That makes 13 not 19.

  2. I was wondering that same thing myself.

There were 6 in the BACK aka the trunk space of a hatchback, 10 in the backseat, and 3 in the front.

It was 6 in the back back–meaning the trunk part, then 10 in the backseat, plus 3 in the front seat, that equals 19.

I'm sure it wasn't eh $60 fine that made her say She will not be doing it again, It was the 19 kids saying, I'm Hungry, Are we almost there yet? Not to mention how much the actual food and drinks cost her…. This is priceless!

Three things come to mind…………Dangerous-there is a seat belt law there right? LOL….2ndly…The parents of all of these little children! I'd be livid if my child was packed in that car without seat belts or PERMISSION to do so and 3rdly…I wouldn't think the children were to comfortable. Weird story.
