Baltimore, MD – Jacoby Jones ran his way into the record books in Sunday’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys.

The 28-year-old Ravens wide receiver caught the kickoff in the third quarter with his team leading 17-13. Rather than drop his knee, Jones took a gamble that paid off spectacularly: He chose to run and proceeded to slip through the Cowboys defense for a stunning 108-yard touchdown.

Jones was eight yards deep in the end zone when he caught the kickoff, meaning his mammoth return tied those of New England’s Ellis Hobbs in 2007 and Green Bay’s Randall Cobb in 2011.

Furthermore, Jones’ eye-catching contribution proved crucial. The Ravens clinched a narrow 31-29 victory to go 5-1 for the season. Speaking later about his choice to run rather than place his knee down, Jacoby Jones said:

“You know when you get that itch? I wanted to scratch it. So I took it.”

The result was the Raven’s 14th straight regular season home win, but this was a game that could easily have gone either way.

The Cowboys managed 481 yards against a Baltimore defense that lost some major personnel to injury including middle linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerbacks Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith. Yet, despite Dallas holding the ball for more than 40 minutes, Jones’ colossal return sealed the game for the hosts.
