‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Though He May Have Survived Negan, This Character’s Days Might Still Be Numbered In Season 7 [Spoilers]

The Walking Dead season premiere was a gut punch to fans, but though Daryl Dixon may have survived the carnage, there are spoilers that the fan-favorite won’t make it to the end of Season 7.

[WARNING: There are some major Walking Dead spoilers ahead. If you haven’t seen the Season 7 premiere yet — or if you’re just too traumatized to read about it again, you can pick up after the bolded text below to read spoiler-free.]

Fans of the zombie-suspense-drama were forced to wait all summer to find out which beloved major character would die in the Season 7 premiere. Almost the entirety of Season 6 was spent building up to the arrival of Negan, the brutal but principled leader of the Saviors. At the very end of last season, Negan had Rick and his crew lined up on their knees, ready to kill one of them.

The fact that the show left on a cliffhanger meant that fans got to spend all summer speculating who would be killed, and Daryl Dixon was a popular target. There had been plenty of signs that he might be ready to move on from the show, including his shift to a new reality show, Ride With Norman Reedus. But that show was able to complete its filming in The Walking Dead‘s off-season, and Daryl Dixon ended up surviving the encounter with Negan — this first one, at least.

Abraham was the first to be killed by Negan, and Glenn Rhee also met his fate at the end of Negan’s barbed wire-covered baseball bat, a scene that followed along with the comic book perfectly.

For fans of Glenn, it was especially difficult given the run-around fans were given early in Season 6 when it appeared that Glenn had been killed by a horde of walkers. In that scene, the walkers surrounded Glenn and Nicholas and looked to viewers to tear the two men to pieces, but Nicholas actually shielded Glenn’s body and he was reunited with the rest of the crew — but not before several agonizing weeks when fans didn’t know if he was dead or alive.

Beyond the gruesome Season 7 premiere, there are potential Walking Dead spoilers that might not sit well with fans of Daryl Dixon. If the television show continues to follow along closely with the comic book, it means a long and bloody struggle with Negan and the Saviors that will claim several victims.

The wild card for Daryl Dixon is the fact that his character isn’t actually in the comic book, so fans don’t have a benchmark of what might happen to him. And Norman Reedus is already dropping hints about his character’s death, telling ComicBook how he thinks Daryl should go out.

“I’d like him to just walk away and just walk away into the woods, and people go, ‘Where the heck is that guy?'” Reedus said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, he gets shot.’ ‘Oh, he turns into a zombie.’ ‘They put him down.’ We’ve seen all of that happen so many times. I think with Daryl, because he came in that way, I think he should go out that way. He should just walk away, and people are like, ‘What ever happened to him?’ Nobody knows. He’s like the Outlaw Josey Wales or some s***.”

While that may have just been a hypothetical, it has many fans worried that Reedus may be priming fans for the death of Daryl Dixon. And if the spoilers surrounding The Walking Dead are true for Season 7, it may mean Daryl’s days are already numbered.
