‘The Walking Dead’: Does Maggie’s Ring Reveal Who Negan Kills With Lucille In Season 7 Premiere? [Video]

The Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead is just hours away and fans are still speculating which character Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will end up destroying with his trusty barbed wire bat, Lucille. A multitude of theories have been bandied about social media, each of them finding reasons as to why one of the vulnerable 11 in Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) crew could be Negan’s ultimate victim.

After a tense, yet intriguing sneak peek of the premiere episode entitled, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” was recently released, fans were once again trying piece together any hints or clues contained in the clip, including Maggie’s wedding ring, attempting to figure out which beloved Alexandrian will die a gruesome death thanks to Negan.

The clip begins almost where the Season 6 finale episode of The Walking Dead ends, minus a view of Negan’s brutal kill. What seems to be very low sighs or gasps can be heard in the background as a stunned Rick is seen with a swipe of blood on the right side of his face, leading many to speculate the character to be decimated must be someone lined up on that side of Rick.

Last season, when Rick’s crew is captured by Negan and his Saviors, they are forced onto their knees in an execution-style lineup. On Rick’s right, beginning with the closest person to him, is Maggie (Lauren Cohan), then Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Rosita (Christian Serratos), and finally Glenn (Steven Yeun).

After Rick tells Negan he will eventually kill him, Negan hints that the character killed was a male, possibly Rick’s “right hand man.” After basking in the glory of his kill in front of Rick and those of Rick’s crew still breathing, Negan obtains an ax from one of his henchman and is seen dragging Rick toward the RV parked in front of the group.

The camera then pulls back and a disgusting puddle of gore is seen on the ground, no doubt the remains of the poor soul who was pummeled by Negan’s bat Lucille. A blanket is seen near this mess, and Daryl is the only character wearing a blanket in the lineup, however, many have discounted that this means he was killed because the placement of this hint is just too obvious.

According to TV Guide, Daryl is “not going anywhere… He’s safe,” but horrifyingly, when examining the “pile of viscera… you can see something shiny and metallic… Something fans have identified as Maggie’s wedding ring.”

Comicbook also reported on this possible clue as to who Negan kills, noting on the right of the screen, “If you look closely… you will see an object that looks an awful lot like a ring.” So, the question remains as to whether Maggie gets the death blow or, if it is her ring, whether she took it off at some point during this terrifying encounter with Negan as a tribute to her fallen man.

If Glenn is killed, according to Comicbook, it would make total sense that Maggie may remove her ring and leave it near her husband as a “symbol of their partnership…” which would be very “poetic…”

This wouldn’t necessarily be surprising or a stretch, as in The Walking Dead comics, Glenn is the member of Rick’s group that is mercilessly and brutally beaten to death by Negan, thus, many fans are expecting this to happen during the Season 7 premiere.

As previously reported by Inquisitr, a nod to Glenn’s probable gruesome death in the series may have been placed in prior episodes of The Walking Dead to tease hardcore fans of the comic book.

In the Season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead, Glenn is almost slammed in the head with a baseball bat by one of the Terminus cannibals, and by Episode 9 Glenn is seen holding a bat for protection.

Fast forward to Episode 12 of Season 6 of the show when Rick and his group storms one of Negan’s compounds, Glenn makes his first human kill and spies sickening photos on the wall of what looks to be pulverized heads of a number of Negan’s victims.

Could all of these hints, with the addition of Maggie’s ring, have been part of a plan to hint at Glenn’s ultimate demise, or just a ruse to shock fans when a totally different character bites the dust?

Even if Glenn is expectedly massacred, he is a beloved character and his death will be shocking nonetheless. One consolation, however, will be that after The Walking Dead airs Sunday night, all speculation about Negan’s murderous act will be over and the mourning can begin for whichever character will be absent from the show forever.

The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere episode, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” begins at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on AMC. The season premiere of Talking Dead will air immediately following the episode.
