Highlights Of The First Two India Vs. New Zealand ODI Matches

India came into the ODI series needing four wins out of five to leapfrog New Zealand on the ICC ODI world ranking table, moving into third place. The Men in Blue got off to a good start in Dharamsala last Sunday, scoring a convincing six-wicket win with 101 balls remaining over the Black Caps, who have never won a bilateral ODI series on Indian soil.

But in the second ODI in Delhi on Thursday, New Zealand batted the full 50 over while losing nine wickets — but posting 242 runs to set up what looked like a challenging but attainable chase for the home team.

But this time, the New Zealand bowlers barely held off MS Dhoni’s men, bowling them out with India needing seven runs off the final three balls.

Highlights of that thriller can be viewed in the following video.

What to Look For in the Third India Vs. New Zealand ODI

After inspecting the pitch on Saturday, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee said that he liked what he saw, with just enough grass to give the fast bowlers something to work with. At the same time, the Mohali pitch has historically been batter-friendly in ODI competition, meaning scores in the mid-200s should not be surprising.

India, however, saw no batsman move past 50 in the second ODI. In fact, Kedar Jadhav registered the team-high 41, followed by the captain with 39.

Dhoni will also be putting pressure on opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane to step up their production after they combined for just 47 in the first ODI and 43 in the second.

The question for New Zealand will be whether to stick with only one spinner in Mitchell Santner or to mix up their attack to present India batsmen with enough variety to keep them off their timing.

Team News for the Third ODI

For India, Suresh Raina remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a viral fever.

Here are the expected teams for the third of five ODI matches.

India: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Ajinkya Rahane, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Manish Pandey, 5 MS Dhoni (captain and wicketkeeper), 6 Kedar Jadhav, 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Amit Mishra, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (captain), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Corey Anderson, 6 Luke Ronchi (wicketkeeper), 7 James Neesham/Anton Devcich, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Matt Henry.
