New Netflix November 2016 Movies, TV And Originals: ‘The Crown,’ ‘K-POP: Extreme Survival’ Plus Bogart And More

Netflix offers a full slate heavily weighted toward original programming in November 2016, highlighted by the anticipated British royal drama The Crown. But the month also brings some classic and recently-released hit movies as well — including the only movie to bring Humphrey Bogart an Academy Award.

After more than 20 years in Hollywood, starring in such immortal screen gems as The Maltese Falcon, To Have and Have Not and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Bogart in 1951 finally won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a hard-drinking riverboat captain in The African Queen. With co-star Katherine Hepburn, the movie still holds up as one of the great adventure films ever made.

The African Queen returns to Netflix on November 1.

The Netflix original series The Crown is the brainchild of writer Peter Morgan, who has been described as Britain’s Aaron Sorkin. After penning the screenplay to the 2006 British hit The Queen, in which Helen Mirren memorably took on the role of Queen Elizabeth II, Morgan returns to his favorite subject in a series chronicling the controversial ascension of Elizabeth to the throne at the age of 25 in 1952.

With a budget of more than $122 million, the 10-episode drama spans several decades, beginning with Elizabeth’s marriage to Prince Philip, who apparently had a difficult time handling the fact that he would occupy an inferior position to his wife in British society.

The Crown premieres on Netflix November 4.

Fans of Korean “idol dramas” will be thrilled to find K-POP: Extreme Survival hitting the Netflix streaming service on November 15. The drama features 27-year-old Korean superstar Ko Eun Ah as Ji Seung Yeon, a young woman who aspires to pop stardom, but must pose as a man to join a top Korean all-boy “idol group.”
