‘The Good Place’ Season 1 Spoilers: Will Janet Discover Eleanor’s Secret In Episode 7, ‘The Eternal Shriek?’

The Good Place Season 1 returns with an all-new episode this Thursday, Oct. 20, with, “The Eternal Shriek.” According to the official synopsis and latest spoilers, Episode 7 will focus on D’Arcy Carden’s Siri-like character, Janet, and the aftermath of Michael’s (Ten Danson) decision to leave the good place.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, The Good Place creator Michael Schur shared that Episode 7, “The Eternal Shriek,” is his favorite episode to date. Thinking that he was the reason why bad things keep happening in the good place, Michael, the neighborhood’s architect, decided to leave the place forever. Schur, however, pointed out that this does not mean that Eleanor (Kristen Bell) is off the hook. The showrunner hinted that Janet might have some pivotal information, linking Eleanor to all the catastrophe happening in the good place.

“Episode 7 is sort of a Janet-centric episode. Really, the whole thing is about Janet, and I think it might be my favorite episode, if not of the season, at least up to this point.”

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, D’Arcy Carden, who plays Janet on The Good Place, revealed that the cast did not know much about the sitcom when they first signed up. Other than Bell and Danson, most of the actors did not know where the show is heading

“Basically we signed onto the job without reading the pilot, or truly knowing anything about it other than knowing who the cast was and who the creator was. So we were getting pieces of the season throughout, meaning I didn’t know what the end looked like in the beginning, I didn’t know until halfway through what the finale would look like,” she explained.

Carden, however, said that Michael Schur has always been super collaborative with the cast. Even though he already has an idea how everything should look like, the showrunner still valued the actors’ opinions.

“They were very willing to let me try a lot of different versions of Janet and then we knew we would figure out who she was as we went. The funny thing is that I would try a more emotional Janet or a more robotic Janet, but what I’m seeing on the screen is exactly what Mike originally explained, it’s exactly what he wanted; the Janet he explained is what we ended up going with, which is so funny and perfect,” she shared.

In the last episode of The Good Place Season 1, titled “What We Owe to Each Other,” Michael asked for help from Eleanor to investigate the neighborhood’s “glitches.” Worried that he would figure out that she does not belong to the good place, Eleanor encouraged Michael to take a day off, claiming that taking a break once in a while will help him clear his mind. Interestingly, after a day of singing karaoke, playing see ball, and eating froyo, Michael eventually reached a breakthrough.

“I realized part of what makes human so fun is that they are unpredictable. The chaos we have been experiencing is exactly what would happen if a human resident behaved unpredictably. The problem in our neighborhood, its not a rock or an object, it’s one of the people,” Michael told Eleanor.

Michael then asked Janet to provide him a list of residents who were present when the calamities struck. Eleanor, however, got lucky a couple of times when Janet provided Michael with hundreds of names every single time. Eventually, Michael came to the conclusion that he was the problem and must leave the good place forever.

In the sneak peek clip for Thursday’s episode of The Good Place Season 1, Michael revealed that, prior to leaving, he first wanted to be punished for “forking up” the neighborhood.

“My body will be endlessly beaten with a titanium rod,” he said.

“Like a piñata,” Tahani added
