Allen Smith returned a $690 million check that he received by accident earlier this week.

The Huffington Post reports that Smith was expecting a $650 check from Veteran Affairs. When he opened the envelope, however, he noticed that his check had an extra six zeroes.

His mother, Patricia, said that Smith immediately took the $690,000,000 check to Fort Benning to return the money.

Patricia said:

“He immediately, immediately went to the VA officer at Fort Benning – not the local person for the State of Georgia — and turned in the check. I have talked to the general inspector VA. He is going to make sure that check gets back to where it belongs.”

Smith, 22, receives a check from the US Treasury Department to help pay for college expenses because his father served in the US Air Force.

Officials at Veteran Affairs said that they aren’t sure how Smith was given a $690 million check. Itsy Bitsy Steps reports that the mistake could have been a printing error or a human error.

Last week, the Inquisitr reported that a woman in France received a trillion-euro phone bill as a result of a printing error. A woman also received a 15 quadrillion bill earlier this week due to a computer error.
