Tom Hanks To Star In Nora Ephron Broadway Play ‘Lucky Guy’

Tom Hanks will be teaming up with Nora Ephron one last time. The star of You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle will be heading to Broadway this March to star in the play Lucky Guy.

The New York Times reports that Hanks was in talks for the role before Ephron’s death in June. Producers of the play announced today that the Oscar winner has now officially joined the cast.

After Nora passed away, Hanks said:

“Nora Ephron was a journalist/artist who knew what was important to know; how things really worked, what was worthwhile, who was fascinating and why. At a dinner table and on a film set she lifted us all with wisdom and wit mixed with love for us and love for life. Rita and I are so very sad to lose our friend who brought so much joy to all who were lucky enough to know her…”

Hanks starred in two big screen movies written by Nora Ephron. In 1993 he starred in Sleepless In Seattle and in 1998 he starred in You’ve Got Mail.

According to the producers of the play, Lucky Guy will be set in”the scandal- and graffiti-ridden New York of the 1980s, as told through the story of the charismatic and controversial tabloid columnist Mike McAlary.”

Hanks will play McAlary.

Preview performances of the new Broadway play will start on March 1. Opening day will occur a month later on April 1.
