A man was ousted from a bar in Australia because his mullet didn’t make the cut.

Despite the mullet’s reputation for being all “party in the back,” proud mullet-wearer David Hoogland says that a bar ousted him over his hairstyle. Though he’s been wearing his mullet for 10 years and has never had any problems, the Print Hall pub in Australia wasn’t terribly taken with his coiff and asked him to leave over the weekend, reports MSN.

Hoogland and his fiancee hit up the rooftop bar and were there enjoying drinks for about a half an hour before a bouncer approached him and told him that he had to leave because of his mullet.

“I’m not in a gang, I don’t have tattoos all over me, I’m just an everyday person,” Hoogland said. “I agree if you’re being rowdy, out of control, drunk or abusive then you should be kicked out but if you’re just sitting down having a chat and a quiet social drink, I think that’s pretty rude.”

Print Hall’s management team didn’t respond to Yahoo requests for a comment. Under WA law, venues are free to set dress code rules, but cannot discriminate against patrons on the basis of sex, race, or religion. Most inner-city Perth bars said that they do have a dress code, but it varies from bar to bar, and there are few set-in-stone rules. We’re guessing that wearing a mullet isn’t usually one of them.

The Trustee Bar and Bistro, Marinela Antonic, said the bar did not have a dress code, putting more emphasis on attitude.

So maybe they just didn’t like the mullet’s attitude. In any case, we have no idea why Mr. Hoogland was ejected, but it sounds like there are plenty of other bars where wearing a majestic mullet is welcomed.
