If college football fans were to choose the winner of the Presidential election at this very moment in time, Mitt Romney would win the 2012 election. Discover Card recently conducted a national survey to gauge college football fan loyalty.

The survey asked each fan in various football conferences to choose who they would rather sit next to during a football game.

Fifty-three percent of fans said they would rather sit down next to Mitt Romney while 42 percent named President Obama as their choice for football watching partner.

The results did vary between conferences, which makes sense since they are located in different parts of the country. In the Big 10, President Obama won the survey with 52 percent of votes compared to Mitt Romney’s 43 percent.

Mitt Romney, in the meantime, won a majority of fans in the SEC, PAC-12, Big East, Big 12, and ACC.

When asked who they would rather grab a beer with, 50 percent of fans chose Governor Romney while 39 percent said they would like to throw one back with Barack Obama. Big 10 fans also switched sides when it came to drinking a beer, choosing Romney 48 percent of the time compared to 42 percent for President Obama.

So how do those fans stack up based on favorite team? Forty-two percent of respondents declared the Alabama Crimson Tide to be the best team in the country.  The rest of the votes went as follows:

• Oregon, 17 percent
• Florida, 5 percent
• Notre Dame, 5 percent
• South Carolina, 4 percent
• West Virginia, 4 percent
• Ohio State, 4 percent
• Kansas State, 2 percent
• Some other team, 10 percent
• Not sure, 8 percent
