American Youngster Melanie Oudin Ousts Sharapova At U.S. Open

Flushing Meadows, NY (AHN) – American Melanie Oudin is playing beyond her 17 years, knocking off Maria Sharapova 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in Saturday’s third-round match at the U.S. Open.
It marked another upset for the unseeded Oudin, who already defeated Elena Dementieva at this tourney.
Sharapova was seeded No. 29 after coming off an injury-filled year, but is a former champion in Queens.
No. 13 Nadia Petrova is up next for Oudin, as she toppled Zheng Jie 6-4, 6-1.
On the men’s side, No. 4 Novak Djokovic toppled unseeded American Jesse Witten 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 ina hard-fought match.
Nikolay Davydenko overpowered Marco Chiudinelli 6-4, 7-5, 7-5.
