‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8: Villain’s Goal And Humanization? Julie Plec Teases ‘TVD’ Spoilers

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on The CW network in only four days. Fans are getting excited, but nervous as well. This is the final season of the supernatural TV show, making it bittersweet. What can viewers expect from the characters and the new big bad? Executive producer Julie Plec teased some spoilers.

TVD spoilers are below. If you don’t want to know anything about what could happen, then stop reading.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, there are small pieces of information about the new villain. It is speculated that the new character of Sybil is actually the creature that was inside the Armory’s vault. It was confirmed that the mystery monster is female, but what else is known?

TV Guide asked executive producer Julie Plec for some details on what to expect. One of the questions was what the villain’s goal is. Why did she pick Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey)? Why is she having them kill instead of doing it herself? What exactly is her mission in The Vampire Diaries Season 8?

“Part of the fun at the beginning of the season is that we don’t know the identity of or the supernatural definition of the big bad. There is no description for what was in that vault and what clawed creature has literally sunk its talons into Enzo and Damon’s minds. So we are looking forward to unraveling that mystery in the first episode and laying the groundwork for a great backstory for this villain.”

The showrunner also teased what the goal of the mystery monster is in the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries.

“We’re doing a lot with themes of good versus evil, fear of what waits for us at the end, fear of the unknown of death, and this particular entity has the ability to instill great fear of how one might get punished for one’s evil deeds.”

While that answer didn’t reveal too much, many are wondering if the villain will somehow be humanized. The Vampire Diaries has done this with several enemies in the past. Will this happen again in Season 8? The executive producer teased that the formula will not change. They have had a lot of success of humanizing nasty villains and the mystery creature is no exception.

As for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premiere episode, titled “Hello Brother,” it will focus on what is going on with Damon and Enzo. They are aware that the creature is forcing them to do horrible things. Even though neither want to do them, they each will handle it in different ways. Enzo will fight it with all of his might. However, Damon Salvatore will seemingly embrace it, something that shocks Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley).

It was teased that Damon and Enzo will eventually regain control of their own minds. When this happens, there will have to be some sort of damage control. Plec said that evil and darkness is only one part of the themes in Season 8. They will also be exploring if it is possible to make amends and be forgiven. She also pondered the question of everyone is worthy of forgiveness and what does someone have to do to earn redemption.

Regarding Stefan and Damon’s rocky relationship, expect full closure by the Season 8 finale of The Vampire Diaries.

“One of the benefits of knowing that you’re going to the end is that you can finally take relationships and deliver them to their endpoints. Stefan and Damon have had a lot of back-and-forths over the seasons – where they stand with each other, how deep their love and commitment for each other is – and this season we’ll take that, explore it to its fullest and resolve it.”

What do you think of what Julie Plec had to say about TVD, Stefan, Damon, Enzo, and the villain? The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on October 21.
