Cris Cyborg Versus Ronda Rousey Superfight: UFC President Dana White ‘Promises’ That ‘Rowdy’ Will Face ‘Cyborg’ After Championship Fight Against Amanda Nunes At ‘UFC 207: Nunes Vs. Rousey’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White made it known that former Ronda Rousey will be fighting Cristiane Justino, better known as Cris Cyborg. However, it will take place after Rousey fights UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey.

Before detailing Dana White announcing Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey, it must be reported that he first and foremost wants Rousey to have her championship match against Amanda Nunes. Back in UFC193: Rousey vs. Holm, Rousey suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Holly Holm. Since then, the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship has changed hands twice, first to Miesha Tate, and now to Amanda Nunes. Rousey, not just being a former champion but the inaugural UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, is being given a chance to regain the title she lost. Despite what some may say about her needing to have a rematch against Holm to decide the number one contender, it should be stressed Rousey has successfully defended the title six times in a row. Ronda Rousey more than deserves to have a rematch upon her return.

Eventually, the fight was made official on Wednesday, October 12, as written in an article by MMA Mania. According to their report, Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey will headline UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey on Saturday, December 30, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

At this point, any news or chatter about a Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey superfight happening may seem like a dream that will never come true. However, Dana White did stress that such a fight will happen after Rousey fights Amanda Nunes during an interview on The Herd on Fox Sports 1. According to a written article by FanSided, it reports that Rousey would fight Cyborg after she fights Nunes. Unfortunately, there is a stipulation included. Rousey needs to win her fight against Nunes for White to set up the superfight. This led to speculation that if Rousey were to lose, she would retire from MMA. Cyborg even made it known she too speculates that would be the case.

Though many MMA fans would be disappointed if Ronda Rousey were to lose and retire thus “robbing” fans of the “greatest fight of all time,” it should be questioned if such a fight would be considered such a high-praised moniker if one of the contestants lost two fights in a row. If Rousey were to lose to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, she would have two back-to-back losses to her record. True she was undefeated for 12 fights straight since her debut, but does such a record even count towards Cris Cyborg? Right now, Cyborg has 17 straight wins, though technically it could be 18 straight wins since one was overturned to a “no contest” since she popped for a failed drug test five years ago. Still, 17 straight wins over the course of more than a decade is a major feat. Her only loss was in her debut, which seems like forever ago.

With the stipulation intact, those who want a Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey superfight hopes Rousey can actually win the title back. If she does win it back, Cyborg fans will hope that Rousey does not “dodge” her. Just because Dana White says something will happen, MMA fans know very well that may not be the case.
