Rocker and animal activist Morrissey appeared on The Colbert Report last night. Let the awkwardness begin.

We don’t know if Stephen Colbert just hasn’t ever heard of Morrissey before or if he just doesn’t care (we’re going with the latter). After introducing the 53-year-old as a “legend,” things quickly diverted into general awkwardness with hilarious reactions on everything from a reunion The Smiths, to the British Royal Family, and of course, animal rights.

Colbert said that Morrissey forced his staff to go vegetarian while he was on the set, requiring that no animal products be present during his stay. The host apologized to Morrissey, saying that he may be going through “bacon withdrawal,” and pointing out that the rocker’s song “meat is murder” forced Colbert to conclude that “murder is delicious.”

“Animals are much nicer than humans,” Morrissey said, to which Colbert replied, “I know a lamb that’s a f—ing a–hole,” then asking if he could eat a pig who had “committed suicide after listening to too many of your records.”

Ecorazzi was quick to point out that Colbert is, in fact, an animal lover, and that his forceful chiding was all a part of the pundit character he plays. Most outlets reporting on Colbert’s interview with Morrissey are wondering if Morrissey is in on the joke. We wonder if perhaps the rocker simply takes himself too seriously, or if his strong convictions simply blind him from satirical humor.
