Is Harry Styles Telling One Direction Fans That It Is All Over?

Since One Direction announced their break, hiatus rumors have abounded suggesting that they are done for good. The problem, when it comes to Harry Styles and One Direction, is that you can rarely take what you read at face value. Since Styles and One Direction lit-up the X-Factor in 2010, they have spawned an industry intent on reporting every facet of the boys lives. Barely a day passes without a host of stories about Harry or his bandmates, and what the stories all seem to share is that they lack verifiable facts.

Given that Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne have some of the most recognizable faces on the planet it is surprising that they are seen so infrequently. Of course every now and then we see a picture of Louis Tomlinson leaving a nightclub or Harry cavorting on a yacht with Kendall Jenner, but besides that One Direction seem able to disappear. As a result, news about Styles and One Direction tends to come by way of “unnamed sources” or from fan gossip.

Many One Direction fans treat news about Styles and the rest of the band with a high degree of skepticism. They believe that Simon Cowell has a stranglehold on One Direction’s image and largely controls how they are portrayed in the media. With Styles and the boys enjoying a hiatus at present, there is little real news to report so rumors take on a whole new life.

Of course many may think it odd that Styles has remained relatively quiet about One Direction’s future. It was recently reported in the Inquisitr that Harry had told Another Man magazine that there is no One Direction reunion on the cards in the foreseeable future.

“It’s a difficult question to answer. I would never say we’ll never do anything again but it’s good for us to be exploring different things. Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it is better if it happens naturally.”

If Harry’s words are to be taken literally, he seems to be at odds with his bandmates. Both Niall Horan and Liam Payne have repeatedly said that One Direction will return, but the timescale has always been vague. It seems that Harry is now saying “maybe at some point” indicating that there is nothing planned.

As Unreality TV correctly asserts, Styles, Horan, and Payne have all signed solo record deals. Harry’s deal is reportedly worth a whopping $80 million and involves a reported three albums. You can bet that Styles’ new record company will want him to tour extensively in support of those albums. As any fan knows, Styles has also made a move into the movie business in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. As USA Today reports, Styles has been tipped to play Mick Jagger in a forthcoming biopic. Harry even channels Jagger on the cover of Another Man.

What must be clear is that Styles is unlikely to have much time to devote to One Direction for years to come. Whether you care for One Direction’s music or not, few doubt that Styles is a very talented young man. Harry’s fans have no doubt that he will be hugely successful at whatever he turns his hand to.

Harry’s enormous fanbase wishes him well and will doubtlessly help to ensure that Styles is a success as a solo artist. Ultimately, it is the success of Styles’ solo work that will decide whether or not a One Direction reunion is feasible. The irony for One Direction fans is that, by making Styles and his mates a success as solo artists, they will reduce the chances of what they desire most, a One Direction reunion.
