‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’: Evan Peters Finally Turns Up, But Will It Only Be For One Episode?

Ever since FX’s American Horror Story: Roanoke aired, fans have been asking where Evan Peters was. Finally, in Episode 5 of AHS, he made his spectacular appearance. But will viewers see any more of his character?

Spoiler alert: This article discusses FX’s American Horror Story: Roanoke, in particular, Episode 5 (also known as “Chapter 5”). Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

For those of you who guessed Evan Peters would be playing Edward Philippe Mott in American Horror Story: Roanoke, please take a bow.

Episode 4 of AHS suggested the Motts would make an appearance when it was revealed by Dr. Elias Cunningham (Denis O’Hare) that Edward Mott was the original owner of the house Matt (Andre Holland/Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and Shelby (Lily Rabe/Sarah Paulson) owned. However, it was Episode 5 of American Horror Story: Roanoke that really explored the original tenant.

Edward Philippe Mott left behind his family to build a house in the woods thanks to a severe social anxiety he had. A flamboyant character, he also liked artwork. A lot. So much, in fact, he had the builders of the house dig out a large underground room and tunnel in which he could store his paintings in case of an emergency. Little did he know he would be using this tunnel some 200 years later as a ghost to help Matt and Shelby escape.

Episode 5 of American Horror Story: Roanoke ended with Matt and Shelby successfully fleeing their haunted house along with Lee (Adina Porter/Angela Bassett) and her daughter, Flora (Saniyya Sidney), to the safety of a motel. This, effectively, closed the door on the My Roanoke Nightmare documentary that has been running through the first five episodes of AHS. So, does this mean viewers won’t get another chance to see Evan Peters in action in this season of American Horror Story?

Vanity Fair seems to think Evan Peters will make another appearance in Season 6 of American Horror Story. And plenty of fans are agreeing with them. According to IMDb, Evan Peters is listed as appearing in all 10 episodes of American Horror Story: Roanoke. However, this means little considering he certainly didn’t appear in the first four episodes of AHS.

If Matt and Shelby have now left the house, it seems unlikely Evan Peters’ character will make a return. But then, where else would the show go considering it is the Roanoke season? With the huge twist that is expected in Episode 6 of American Horror Story: Roanoke, could this mean, somehow, a return to the house?

AHS creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that Episode 6 of American Horror Story: Roanoke would turn the whole concept of Season 6 on its head.

“You’ll see starting in episode 6, the show has a huge turn and the thing that you think you’re watching is not what you’re watching… No matter what you think it is, it’s not that. Then, episode 6 comes and you’re like, ‘Wait! What happened?'”

He also went on to say that AHS Roanoke could be broken up into three different stories. “It’s like [episodes] 1-5, 6-9, and 10 is its own thing,” Murphy told EW. If this is the case, perhaps the show will make a return to the house where Edward Mott resides as a ghost? Although, if that is the case, it may not be in the next few episodes.

As you can see from the teaser for Episode 6 of AHS Roanoke, Cheyenne Jackson finally makes his appearance in the show. He is seen walking down a hall and telling the camera crew to keep filming, no matter what. But the hallway they are in and the room they enter at the end looks more like business offices rather than Matt and Shelby’s house. So, even though what Cheyenne Jackson is saying implies they could be entering the haunted house, where they are looks nowhere near where Matt and Shelby’s house is. And, if this is the case, it is unlikely fans will get to see Evan Peters again any time soon.
