Ann Romney’s Olympic horse didn’t win any medals this year at the 2012 London Games. But for the possible first lady horses mean much more than Olympic glory.

On Good Morning America, Romney said that her horses give her “balance,” “love,” and “joy.”

Romney said:

“It’s so extraordinary, what horses do for us. For me, it’s balance, it’s love, it’s joy. What they’re doing for so many other people right now — we have wounded vets coming home, and they’re turning to horses for therapy. We have kids with autism, Asperger’s, different things, they get on the back of a horse, and all of a sudden, their life changes. They become strong, they become confident.”

Romney, who was serving as guest host on GMA, said that horses also helped her when she was dealing with multiple sclerosis. Ann said that her horses were therapeutic and helped her overcome the fear of living her life in a wheelchair.

Ann said:

“I was very, very weak and very much worried about my life, thinking I was going to be in a wheelchair, as well. I turned to horses. My life has been dramatically different. They gave me the energy, the passion, to get out of bed when I was so sick that I didn’t think I ever wanted to get out of bed.”

Ann also demonstrated her cooking talents on the show. Romney’s M&M cookies recently lost to Michelle Obama’s chocolate chip cookies in a first lady bake off, but Romney impressed the GMA crew with her Welsh skillet cakes.
