According to Pocono Mountain police reports, the helicopter, a Bell 407, went down around 8pm Tuesday in Coolbaugh Township, about 90 miles north of Philadelphia.

The crash reportedly happened as heavy fog was developing across the region, and the wreckage was discovered about 2:30am Wednesday. County coroner Bob Allen says searchers were able to find the crash site by homing in on cell phones aboard the small aircraft.

While further information on the identities of the victims and the survivor have not been released, officials from the Federal Aviation Administration say the helicopter is registered to ACS Helicopters LLC in Far Hills, New Jersey, and based out of the Somerset Airport in Somerville, New Jersey.

Jim Peters, a spokesman for the FAA, added that those aboard the helicopter were returning from a golf outing and headed toward the metro New York area.

It was not clear why the aircraft was trying to land or what caused the crash.

The Pocono Record notes that on Wednesday, authorities were awaiting the arrival of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board from northern Virginia to arrive at the crash site, which was about a mile from Mount Pocono.
