‘Arrow’ Season 5 Spoilers: Is There Still Hope For An Oliver And Felicity Reunion?

Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak may have broken off their engagement, but that doesn’t mean their crime-fighting days are over. Season 5 of Arrow will feature Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) working together to form a new Team Arrow. Does this mean there is some hope for their relationship?

According to TV Guide, Season 5 will definitively answer the question of Oliver’s future with Felicity and whether or not a reunion is in the cards. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like a reunion is going to happen anytime soon.

“We’re not necessarily going to see them reconcile this season,” executive producer Wendy Mericle explained. “[But] I think there will always be lingering feelings between these two.”

While Oliver and Felicity are on hiatus, fans were introduced to her new boyfriend this season, Detective Malone (Tyler Ritter). The only problem with Detective Malone is that he isn’t Oliver’s biggest fan.

Not only does this complicate the matter for Oliver, who is still dealing with his feelings for Felicity, but it also makes Felicity’s life difficult. It isn’t known if Felicity’s new romance will stand the test of time, though Screener TV reports that her new boyfriend isn’t going to stick around for long.

Team Arrow has grown to incorporate a number of different characters over the years, and with each new edition, Oliver has been able to tell more and more people about his secret identity. Detective Malone’s intrusion changes all of that, especially for Felicity.

While it will be good to see the show return to its roots — and Felicity make all kinds of excuses for her late night adventures — it won’t be long before Malone gets suspicious. Malone adds a certain level of normalcy for Felicity because he represents everything that is opposite to the world of vigilantes. This is a good thing, but it also poses an interesting conflict for Felicity.

Last season, Felicity’s biggest problem with Oliver was all the secrets he kept. In fact, his secrets eventually drove them apart and were the main reason behind the end of their engagement.

With Felicity being the one keeping all the secrets this season, she isn’t setting herself up for success with Detective Malone. That being said, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding Malone.

According to Cinema Blend, we still don’t even know Malone’s first name, let alone what is lurking in his past. He seems like someone Felicity can trust. After all, Quentin Lance told everyone that Malone is one of the few officers in Star City who isn’t corrupt.

If Malone is a stand-up guy, then it’s entirely possible that he could join Team Arrow in the future, especially if his romance with Felicity continues to heat up. Hopefully, the coming episodes will reveal more about Malone and how he and Felicity first got together.

Did Felicity hook up with Malone right after her engagement with Oliver was called off? Is he somehow connected to the Flashpoint, or does he have a more sinister background that nobody knows about?

Whatever happens between Felicity and Malone, it is clear that Oliver isn’t happy about it. Along with losing most of his team last season, Oliver has started killing criminals again. If Malone steps out of line, he better watch out for a special visit from the Green Arrow.

In the end, all fans can hope for is that Oliver and Felicity are happy, even if that means they will never get back together.

Fans can watch the action unfold when Season 5 of Arrow airs Wednesday nights on The CW.
