Blake Shelton Tells Miley Cyrus That Gwen Stefani Cried All The Time On ‘The Voice’

Blake Shelton talked about Gwen Stefani again during last night’s episode of The Voice, but this time the country singer wasn’t playing the Gwen card in hopes of convincing a talented competitor to join his team. Something Miley Cyrus did made Blake feel nostalgic for the days when his girlfriend appeared alongside him on the show, and Blake told Miley that her behavior reminded him of Gwen.

As Us Weekly reports, Miley Cyrus is learning that judging The Voice Battle Rounds can be a heart-wrenching, painful process.

“I’m not made for this,” an emotional Miley said after being forced to choose between singers Sophia Urista and Lane Mack.

After going through ten seasons of Battle Rounds, Blake Shelton is used to delivering disappointing news and breaking hearts, so he wasn’t very sympathetic when he saw Miley Cyrus in distress. Instead of comforting his fellow coach, the cowboy tough guy decided to crack a Gwen Stefani joke. He quipped that Gwen “cried every day” back when she worked alongside him during Seasons 7 and 9. Blake also told Miley that she needed to stop shedding tears because she was ruining her reputation.

As Blake Shelton knows, Gwen Stefani had a very good reason for being emotional during Season 9 of The Voice. She was going through her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, her husband of 13 years and the father of her three sons, and the cause of their split absolutely devastated Gwen. In February 2015, she discovered that Gavin was cheating on her with one of their children’s nannies. As Us Weekly reports, the couple announced their divorce in August after Gavin confessed to Gwen that what he had initially downplayed as a “flirtation” was actually a full-blown extramarital affair that had gone on for three years.

As Hollywood Life reports, Gwen Stefani got emotional on the set of The Voice three months after she made her divorce announcement. During the November 11 episode of the show, she cried when she was forced to choose one of her her four team members to save. However, Blake Shelton didn’t treat Gwen the same way he treated Miley Cyrus by telling her to suck it up. Instead, he gave Gwen a hug, “talked to her for a minute,” and made sure that she was okay during a commercial break.

According to Blake Shelton, Gwen also teared up on The Voice set last summer after he informed his fellow coaches that he and Miranda Lambert were getting a divorce. At the time, Blake and the other coaches had no idea that Gwen was also struggling to recover from her marriage’s demise.

“I won’t forget that day,” Shelton told Billboard. “I looked over at Gwen — who I didn’t really know — and she had these huge tears in her eyes. I thought, ‘Wow, she feels super bad for me!'”

Gwen later gathered up the courage to take Blake aside and tell him her big secret. They began bonding over their shared misery by swapping weekly emails about their divorce woes, and soon they were checking up on each other more often. After a few weeks of emailing and texting, Blake Shelton realized that he was starting to think of Gwen as so much more than just a sympathetic friend.

“Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about, and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me,” he revealed.

After Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton officially became “Shefani,” their fans started looking forward to seeing them compete against each other on Season 11 of The Voice. As The Inquisitr previously reported, some Shefani fans were upset when Gwen didn’t return to the show, and they felt like she should have been given Miley Cyrus’ spot. However, Gwen reportedly doesn’t share their grief about Miley being on the show — Gossip Cop recently debunked a rumor that Gwen is jealous of Miley getting too friendly with Blake Shelton on The Voice set. As any longtime Voice viewer knows, it’s Adam Levine that Gwen really needs to worry about.

Luckily for Shefani fans, it looks like their dream of seeing Gwen and Blake together again on The Voice could come true next season. According to the Wrap, a source close to the show has said that Gwen will “likely” return for Season 12 of The Voice in the spring. It remains to be seen whether she’ll be Blake Shelton’s girlfriend, fiancée, or wife whenever this happens.
