‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: There’s A Brand New Teaser Video For Fans To Analyze [Video]

Season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead ended on a massive cliffhanger. While comic book fans know who Negan kills, it could go 11 different ways in the TV series. And AMC have milked that for all it is worth with the cast and crew remaining tight-lipped about who dies in the Season 7 premiere.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses the Season 6 finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead as well as speculates about Season 7. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

AMC are genius at keeping the fans guessing when it comes to their zombie apocalypse drama, The Walking Dead. Considering the TV series is based on a successful comic book series, they still manage to shock viewers in regard to storylines and character deaths. However, with their Season 6 cliffhanger, AMC has taken it to a whole new level as they deflect fans away from who is killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his vicious barb-wired baseball bat, Lucille.

Not only have the cast and crew remained incredibly tight-lipped about the death, but AMC have filmed the death scene 11 times — one for each character threatened according to the Hollywood Reporter. It has been a logistical nightmare for the network as well regarding not only fans’ ire at the death being held over for months until the next season, but also at helping to promote Season 7 of The Walking Dead in general. In fact, AMC released random images of what they called the “new world” rather than images with characters in it so that fans could not speculate over what each image implied.

But, the New York Comic Con changed all that with the release of a new sneak peek into the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. You can view the clip below.

Fans and media outlets alike have already watched this clip more that 3.7 million times on YouTube. And so begins the theories over who Negan kills 2.0.

What we can definitely say from the sneak peek is that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) doesn’t die. Although, by the end of the clip, Rick is dragged off into the RV, so maybe he is Negan’s next victim? But to answer the question of who Negan killed at the very end of Season 6, it wasn’t Rick.

When the video clip pans down to the bloody victim (that is no more than a puddle of blood and gore), a blanket is seen. This is likely the blanket Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) had wrapped around him, indicating the victim could be Daryl. An earlier Season 7 sneak peek also showed one of Negan’s group wearing Daryl’s iconic angel wing leather vest, which adds more fuel to Daryl being killed by Negan.

However, the over-analysis has already led to another possibility. According to TV Guide, fans are saying a ring can be seen in the pile of gore, indicating Maggie (Lauren Cohan) was the one Negan killed in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead.

Considering Maggie is on the correct side of Rick according to the blood splatter shown on his face in the Season 7 sneak peek clip, it seems pretty dire for her survival. Also, TV Guide points out that Lauren Cohan was incredibly emotional during New York Comic Con and actually broke down and cried when asked about the relationship between Maggie and Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun).

However, TV Guide also points out in a different article that AMC would be mad to release a sneak peek into the premiere of Season 7 of The Walking Dead with such giveaway clues contained in it. This is especially true considering there is less than two weeks to go until the Season 7 premiere airs on AMC. So, could AMC be doing what they do best and that is creating a smokescreen so viewers cannot see what is actually going to happen? Only by tuning into the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead will the answer be revealed.

The official synopsis for Episode 1 (entitled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”) of Season 7 of The Walking Dead is below.

“Last season ended with Rick and our group kneeling helplessly before Negan and his group. What Negan does will haunt those who survive forever.”
