Brad Pitt Endorsing Chanel No.5, Teaser Footage Released [Video]

Brad Pitt is the new face of Chanel No.5, and if that feels a little odd, here’s why: Pitt is the first male to endorse the famous scent in its 91-year history.

The 46-year-old star of Ocean’s Eleven and Fight Club is following in the dainty footsteps of some monumentally famous females, including Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman, and Audrey Tautou.

Not only is Pitt making Chanel history, but he’s also getting handsomely rewarded for his troubles – his paycheck for the campaign is reportedly a fragrant $7 million.

The Hollywood star was revealed as Chanel’s new star back in May. At the time of Pitt’s recruitment, Chanel spokeswoman Andrea d’Avack said:

“To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view. It is the first time we’ve had a man speaking about a women’s fragrance. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume. No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level.”

And now, we’re getting our first look of the new campaign, which is due to premiere October 15. Chanel has released a moody shot of Pitt with English director Joe Wright (above), with both men looking off into the middle distance. Wright, who is shooting the entire Pitt/Chanel campaign, has previously directed Keira Knightley movies Atonement and Anna Karenina. He has experience in selling scents as well: he worked with Knightley on a recent Coco Mademoiselle commercial.

The perfume-maker also released a series of four video teasers, though these are likely to disappoint Pitt fans, consisting as they do of just a static image of the side of the actor’s head. Each video is accompanied by a pretentious and breathy comment from Pitt, with his quips including “What’s the mystery?” and “Are you going somewhere?”, followed by “Where?”
