Philadelphia Wedding Brawl: Groom’s Brother Faces Assault Charges
Philadelphia police have arrested the grooms’ brother in connection with the wedding brawl that took place at the Sheraton Society Hill hotel over the weekend. According to Yahoo! News, Matthew Sofka has been charged with assault for his part in the fray which may have resulted in the death of the bride’s uncle.
Not only is the groom’s brother facing assault charges, Philadelphia police are also keen on slapping Sofka with reckless endangerment, inciting a riot, and assaulting an officer of the law for his part in the ruckus. Reports indicate that the groom’s brother was so out of control during the ordeal that police were forced to Taser the man in an effort to get him under control.
Sadly, the bride’s uncle, 57-year-old Vince Sannuti, may have had a fatal heart attack as a direct result of the wedding brawl. Sannuti was found unconscious outside of the hotel after leaving the scene of the fight. He later passed away at an area hospital.
Although police described Matthew Sofka as the “main combatant” in the fray, authorities are expected to make several other arrests in connection to the Philadelphia wedding brawl. At present, investigators are interviewing hotel guests and staff in order to determine who else contributed to the 100-person fight.
Lieutenant Ray Evers explained to the New York Daily News that authorities are pouring over footage of the brawl in order to determine who else is to blame. However, it’s proven more than a little difficult to tell who, exactly, started the fight.
“You really can’t tell who’s on what side when they’re all in suits,” Ever explained. “It’s not like they’re wearing opposing uniforms.”
Max Schultz, who was at the Sheraton Society Hill hotel celebrating his 15th birthday with his parents, captured the entire fight on his cell phone. Before long, Schultz had uploaded the clip to YouTube, where it caught the attention of the entire planet.
