Charlie Brown is going to the movies. 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios announced today that a new Peanuts movie is currently in the works.

But don’t get too excited. The Associated Press reports that the new Peanuts movie won’t hit theaters until 2015. The new movie will coincide with famous Charles Schulz comic strips’ 65th anniversary. It will also be the 50th anniversary of a Charlie Brown Christmas. 

20th Century Fox didn’t announce too many details about the new film but they did say that it would hit theaters on November 25th, 2015, it will be directed by Ice Age: Continental Drift director Steve Martino, and the screenplay will be written by Schulz’ son Craig.

Craig Schulz said:

“We have been working on this project for years … We finally felt the time was right and the technology is where we need it to be to create this film. I am thrilled we will be partnering with Blue Sky/Fox to create a Peanuts movie that is true to the strip and will continue the legacy in honor of my father.”

The LA Times notes that Peanuts was read daily by 355 million people in 75 different countries during its prime. It also spawned several holiday specials like It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
