‘Outlander’ Season 3 News: Graham McTavish Says Sam Heughan Is A ‘True Gentleman’

Even though he’s no longer playing Jamie’s creepy uncle, Graham McTavish is making all of the headlines in the latest Outlander Season 3 news for talking positively about his time in Outlander world. McTavish, who played Dougal MacKenzie, may have been killed by Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe), but he stopped by New York Comic Con to assure fans that all their reasons for exploding with glee over Sam Heughan are well-founded!

Like this writer, Buzzfeed was on hand at New York Comic Con, and they got this nice bit of Outlander Season 3 news from none other than Graham McTavish himself, who was hosting a panel at the annual celebration of sci-fi and comic books fandom. While discussing how, properly, to put on a kilt (which is a process in and of itself, apparently), Graham also talked about the first time he sat down for a so-called “chemistry read” with his erstwhile costar, and marveled at how wonderful he truly was.

“They cast Sam, and I had a chemistry read with him. I went and met Sam, who is, by the way, truly one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He’s a proper gentleman and very, very like his character — really like Jamie. So we had a great time together.”

And even though fans of the Starz show based on the book series by Diana Galbadon won’t be able to see Graham in any Outlander Season 3 news reports, they can take comfort in knowing that they can still see him on their TV screens in the role of the sociopathic Saint of Killers in the AMC show Preacher, based on the graphic novel of the same name. Graham told Geeks of Doom that his character is a cold-blooded killer and much darker than characters he’s had to play in the past.

“You think Game of Thrones is bad? They kill one person, everyone goes nuts, but we killed the entire city! That’s the most people I ever got to kill in one shot.”

Not, mind you, that the Saint of Killers didn’t have perfectly good reasons for wiping out the whole city: he was looking for medicine for his dying daughter, but got sidetracked when he got into a fight with bar patrons. By the time he returned home, his daughter — and his wife — were nothing more than a feast for ravenous crows. Infuriated at this awful turn of events, the Saint of Killers wiped out the whole town.

As for Sam Heughan, who is currently filming Outlander Season 3 in Scotland, the accolades about him continue outside of the typical Outlander Season 3 news. The Hollywood Reporter sat down with actress Arabella Oz, daughter of the infamous Dr. Oz, who starred in the upcoming indie film When The Starlight Ends with Heughan. She recounted a situation which made her uncomfortable at first, but with which Heughan helped her feel more comfortable as they worked together.

“Sam and I were on the beach and I am supposed to take off my bathing suit and run into the water and I remember thinking, ‘Well I just met like 30 people and now I guess I’m gonna go get naked in front of them.’ I told myself that you just have to be brave and then I just did it and it turned out to be so much fun. The days were long and the shoot was long but I loved every moment of it.”
