Nicki Minaj’s New Fruitylicious Album: So, Where Is It?

Nicki Minaj pulled a surprise on her fans on Saturday Night. The rapper took to Twitter to announce that her new album, Pick My Fruit Out, was about to drop at midnight on Sunday, Oct. 9. In a response to a fan, as reported via PitchFork, Minaj tweeted, “Everything happens at the RIGHT time. Not the most requested time, not the predicted time. BUT the RIGHT time.”

Minaj took things further by tweeting the supposed tracklist for the album, which included a list of fruit-like names such as “Mango” and “Kiwi,” and “Bananas (Harambe interlude),” according to NME.

  1. Mango
  2. Cherry
  3. Watermelon
  4. Bananas (harambe interlude)
  5. Grapes
  6. Raspberries
  7. Kiwi
  8. Pineapple
  9. Fruit Loops

She even joked that an extra track would feature her “favorite rapper of all time.”

After fans had gone into a massive meltdown over Nicki Minaj’s supposed new album, she admitted that Pick My Fruit Out was a joke.

Fans were still confused about the whole ordeal. They tried to solve the mystery as to why Minaj was trolling her fan base.

Meanwhile, other fans assumed that Minaj was slamming Marina Diamandis latest Marina and the Diamonds album, FROOT.

Last month, Nicki Minaj dropped some new music on her Soundcloud entitled “The Pinkprint Freestyle,” which gives a shout-out to Lil Wayne, drops an actual reference to gorilla Harambe, and sampled M.I.A.’s hit song “Paper Planes,” reports Mashable. Minaj has been staying active in music by appearing on DJ Khaled’s Major Key album and DJ Mustard’s Cold Summer project, so it’s not like she has taken a complete break from music. According to Complex, Minaj’s joke seems to be a reference from her 2009 single “Itty Bitty Piggy” during her outro on the track. However, it’s not clear if Minaj’s new project will turn out to be an actual studio album, mixtape, or just a joke that’s lost on most of her fans. She hinted to Billboard that she would drop a mixtape shortly.

“I’ll definitely drop a mixtape,” she said in her latest Billboard cover story. “I have to. Well, I want to touch a couple of beats that I wasn’t on. I could have bodied a lot of the records that came out in the last year. But the main thing is, I have to set an example for the female rappers. I’m at the top of that food chain, and it’s important to lead by example.”

Minaj also cited her career beginning and industry savviness as the reasons behind dropping a new mixtape.

“And because I came into the game doing mixtapes, I want to make sure women do not forget the importance of that grind, that walk up to the top,” she says. “You can’t get there with a song. Because once that song is no longer hot, you’re no longer hot. It’s important that you are bigger than your music. Some fans are going to fuck with me for the rest of my life because they know where I came from. Fans know my struggle. How hungry I was. That I was not settling, I was not giving up. I was on everybody’s beat. I was ruthless.”

Minaj’s latest album, The Pinkprint, was released in 2014. She currently is in the Top 10 with Ariana Grande in their latest collaboration “Side To Side.” Watch the music video below.
