Robert Griffin III Will Play Next Sunday Against Minnesota Vikings

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) will likely play next weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan sounded optimistic on Monday as he told reporters that his No. 2 NFL draft pick is recovering nicely from his concussion and is expected to play when the Redskins take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6.

Shanahan said of his star QB:

“We should fine out in the next few days exactly what happens. Right now it looks good. I’m not really sure if it stays that way. The professionals will monitor his situation and let us know if able he’s able to play or not. We surely have nothing to do with it.”

Griffin will sit out of cardio training on Tuesday but will practice with the squad on Wednesday.

RG3 is not allowed to speak with reporters until he is no longer showing symptoms of a concussion, a rule enacted by the NFL at a time when concussion related injuries have drawn the ire of retired players who have filed multiple lawsuits against the NFL for not protecting player interests.

According to team spokesman Tony Wyllie, Robert Griffin III was examined by a neurologist in the team locker room and was then sent home.

The rookie QB was in high spirits three hours after leaving the stadium, tweeting:

“I’m ok and I think after all the testing I will play next week.”

Griffin can only practice with his team after a team doctor and an independent neurologists not associated with the Washington Redskins clears him for action.
