Selena Gomez Lupus And Tour Cancellation: Hilary Duff Weighs In On The Stress Of Hollywood

Selena Gomez is receiving praise from Hilary Duff after canceling her Revival World Tour to focus on her health.

Duff knows a thing or two about growing up in the spotlight. In fact, like Gomez, she starred on Disney as a child and released a number of songs during her career in music. So, when it comes to understanding what Selena Gomez was going through as she decided to take a break from her booming career and possibly seek treatment in rehab for emotional struggles, Duff totally gets it.

When Duff was asked about the struggles of Selena Gomez and other stars like her, Duff told Just Jenny host Jennifer Koppelman Hutt, “I think it’s hard. I just feel for them.”

Selena Gomez announced she would be taking some time off in late August. At the time, the 24-year-old singer and actress claimed to be struggling with anxiety, panic attacks and depression due to her Lupus diagnosis. Shortly thereafter, rumors began swirling in regard to possible issues with addiction and a stint in rehab to address a drug problem.

While Duff has also experienced rumors in the past, she says things with Selena Gomez have been far more intense. Years ago, Duff was targeted with rumors about her relationships and rumors about her possible feuds with other celebrities, but Gomez has been targeted with drug rumors and allegations of her possible ties to Brad Pitt, who is currently in the midst of a divorce.

“It was just a different time for me,” Duff continued, according to a report by Entertainment Tonight on October 7. “When I was just coming onto the scene, it was when all the gossip and stuff started. But now it’s such an extreme level and there’s such a focus on personal life. It must really be a tough struggle. I feel it, and I’m not dealing with it on the level they’re dealing with it on.”

In addition to the rumors mentioned, Selena Gomez has also faced intense speculation into her on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber, which began in 2010. Most recently, Gomez was involved in an Instagram feud with Bieber, which led to rumors claiming she was responsible for his split from Sofia Richie and rumors claiming he was at fault for sending her into a downward spiral.

Although Selena Gomez will likely continue to be plagued by rumors, Duff feels she will soon pull through.

“I think the saving grace is, she makes great music. Tons people love her… The public is smart to gossip magazines and that they’re just trying to make money,” Duff explained. “At the end of the day they love those people and they love their music.”

After announcing she would not be continuing with her Revival World Tour and citing Lupus as the reason behind her struggles, a source spoke to People Magazine and denied drugs or alcohol were involved in her decision to take a break.

According to the magazine’s source, Selena Gomez’s career hiatus is “absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse” and was prompted by the fact that she “hadn’t felt like herself” in recent months.

As the source explained, Selena Gomez decided to clear her schedule for the rest of this year and focus solely on her health and future happiness. In turn, she is said to be feeling relieved as she recovers from symptoms of Lupus at an undisclosed location, which may or may not be a treatment center.
