Docile Pit Bull Forced To Wear Duct Tape Muzzle, RSPCA Responds In Unusual Way

A docile pit bull was photographed wearing a makeshift muzzle constructed of rope and duct tape. The horrifying image quickly spread across the Internet and summoned the attention of the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), who responded in quite an unusual way that was unexpected.

The image was taken outside of a department store in Brighton, according to Metro. Concerned pet owners snapped the image and shared their outrage on social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter. Lesly Wickenden was disgusted that the pit bull was forced to wear the primitive muzzle and knew it was not healthy for the dog. However, rather than attempt to remove the muzzle or confiscate the pit bull, Wickenden chose to contact the RSPCA to intervene.

The owner responded to the concern, stating that police officials advised him to use the rope and duct tape because the pit bull’s muzzle was broken and it had to be fixed in some manner.

The owner also claims that the duct tape muzzle was necessary because the pit bull attempted to bite him.

Wickenden was quite upset at the way the pit bull was treated, claiming on her Facebook page that the dog has feelings and should not be subjected to such a horrific experience.

“The dog was very friendly and on a greenish lead. I told him if the dog was kept on the lead there was no place for the tape.. The animal has feelings and it was wrong if I just drove past.”

Wickenden claims she told the owner that the duct tape muzzle was not necessary as long as the dog was on a leash. She claims that the pit bull was very friendly and docile and that she did not believe the pit bull attempted to bite him.

As a result of the image that was posted to social media, an outcry of disgust flowed over as the RSPCA received an influx of calls in regards to the issue.

An RSPCA spokesperson revealed that there were a lot of calls from people concerned about the well-being of the pit bull. As a result, they had no choice but to approach the owner, according to the Daily Mail.

“We shared the public’s concerns and an RSPCA inspector visited the man on Saturday morning (Oct 1), and they assured our officer that it had only been a temporary measure after his dog’s original muzzle broke while he had been out visiting his mother.”

As the RSPCA investigated the situation and spoke to the owner, they realized that the duct tape muzzle was only a temporary situation and was not meant to harm the dog in any way. The pit bull was well cared for, as was evident during the investigation.

The RSPCA felt that the dog was in good hands with the loving owner and understood his predicament; needing to have a temporary muzzle in place to replace the damaged one. So, instead of taking the dog away from his owner, the RSPCA responded in a manner that was unexpected.

RSPCA officers provided a new muzzle to the man so he would not have to worry about obtaining a new muzzle for his loving pit bull. The man’s obvious love for his best friend was evident and the RSPCA responded in the best way possible.

It is important to note that the duct tape muzzle was not affixed directly to the dog’s snout, but instead used to secure the rope muzzle in place so the dog could not bite. It was not too tight, and the dog was not in any danger.
