‘Resident Evil 6’ Locked On-Disc Content Has Been Discovered

Capcom’s Resident Evil 6, which just hit retail shelves last week (October 2), has reportedly been shipped with locked on-disc content, according to the folks at Original Gamer. After digging through the content currently trapped on the game disc itself, crafty individuals have discovered a new character and a new game mode that’s presently unavailable. At some point down the road, there’s a strong possibility Capcom will release the locked content as DLC.

Of course, not everything locked on the Resident Evil 6 will be available for download. As Fluffy Quack kindly points out, some of the extras will open up once you reach a certain point within the game itself. However, a selection of the locked on-disc content is likely to be associated with Capcom’s downloadable expansions.

Since the company claimed it would stop putting locked content in the retail versions of its releases, Capcom has been called out by critics for including the extras on-disc once again. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take very long for people to get quite upset about the revelation, forcing the company to address the issue in an online statement.

Here’s what Capcom had to say about the Resident Evil 6 content:

“We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc.”

According to Now Gamer, the extra costumes, melee moves, and taunts that have been described as DLC have recently been confirmed as in-game unlockables. Although not everything on-disc will be unlocked via purchase, gamers are still irritated that Capcom has essentially reneged on its promise.

At present, details or release dates for Resident Evil 6 DLC has not been announced by Capcom. What are your thoughts on locked on-disc content?
