Hyuna Graduates From 9MUSES, K-Pop Idol Pens Heartfelt Letter Of Love And Thanks To Fans

The “Second Kpopcalypse” has already beaten many K-pop fans down with way too many K-pop member departures and disbanded groups than they can handle. About the former, Minzy left 2NE1 and Hyunseung left B2ST back in April, followed by Jia leaving Miss A in May. Di, T-ae, and Xia — the remaining original members of Rania — left the group back in June. Finally, Sunhwa left Secret last month. As for the latter, Kara disbanded back in February followed by 4minute in June. Those two, however, were very popular. There are many other K-pop groups who did not find the same level of success as them who disbanded including A6P, Vividiva, Ace, LedT, N*White, ZPZG, LC9, NOM, and LoveUs.

Though K-pop fans hate finding out of any K-pop group losing members or ceasing to exist, some groups, especially certain girl groups, are designed to lose members when they reach a certain age or put in a certain amount of time in. This system is known as “graduation.” This is usually seen in J-pop groups, but some K-pop groups utilize it like Baby V.O.X. and After School. One such group is Nine Muses (stylized as 9MUSES) and as a result of said graduation system, the group’s leader Hyuna has officially graduated from Nine Muses. Before leaving, she penned a heartfelt letter full of love and thanks to fans.

The news of the graduation of Moon Hyun Ah, better known by her K-pop idol moniker of Hyuna, from Nine Muses was made known through their entertainment company, Star Empire. According to AllKpop, Star Entertainment released an official statement on Hyuna’s graduation on Monday, October 3.

“The contract with Hyuna, who has been with us as the member of Nine Muses for the past 6 years, has been terminated. After taking time to discuss the matter with Hyuna, we have decided to respect her desires to expand her career in other forms. Please give Hyuna, who led the team and worked her hardest as the oldest unnie of Nine Muses, your love and attention as she starts off anew.”

Before her departure, Hyuna penned a handwritten letter full of thanks and love to her fans, especially those who are MINE (official fan club of Nine Muses), as reported by Soompi. She uploaded it up on the official fan cafe website for Nine Muses. For those who are unable to read Hangul, the following is a translation of what she wrote.

“I made this decision after contemplating and thinking for a very long time, but it still doesn’t feel real. I still feel like I will laugh and chat loudly with members, receive love from you all, and be happy like I always have.

There were times when we fought but Star Empire was always warm and has family-like atmosphere so I’m a bit afraid about leaving. However, as the oldest member of 9MUSES I won’t lose my passion and will work hard to show you the color of Moon Hyuna more comfortably.”

With Hyuna’s graduation, she is currently the third member of Nine Muses to leave the K-pop group this year. Euaerin and Minha both graduated from Nine Muses back in June. Altogether, nine members of Nine Muses have left the group. Along with the three mentioned above, other members who have left Nine Muses include Jaekyung, Bini, Rana, Eunji, LeeSem, and Sera. Hyuna was actually brought in after Jaekyung left the group, after five months, to replace her.

Star Empire made it known the remaining five members of Nine Muses — Hyemi, Sungah, Kyungri, Sojin, and Keumjo — will continue as a five-member group. Given the fact that Hyemi is the only original member of Nine Muses still active, she might become the new leader.
