The little we saw of Negan in The Walking Dead Season 6 is enough to let us know that he rules with an iron fist and has little tolerance for those who oppose him. We can expect Rick and his people to be put to work while they plot an escape.

We can also get excited about new The Walking Dead cast member Ezekiel, played by Khary Payton, who is the leader of “the Kingdom,” which we get to see in the new season.

The latest Walking Dead trailer teases Ezekiel, who may have the resources to pose a threat to Negan or even Rick Grimes and his people that we all know and love.

We know that Ezekiel has a pet tiger called Shiva and his Kingdom is an old school building that has a wall and survivors that keep them out.

In the Walking Dead so far, leaders tend to have problems keeping their ego or morals in check, including Rick, who has some serious violent tendencies and questionable morals at times.

While some comic book readers will be familiar with Ezekiel, The Walking Dead is not afraid to diverge from the comics as it has done in the past.

Paul “Jesus” Monroe, played by Tom Payne, has been upgraded from a recurring role to a series regular. This suggests that the Hilltop Colony we saw in Season 6 may play some kind of significant role in helping Rick Grimes and crew escape their current predicament.

Monroe proved to be a skillful ally in Season 6, and we are going to see a lot more of him.

Morgan and an injured Carol are certainly not going to be on the receiving end of Negan’s bat, but we don’t know what awaits them in Ezekiel’s kingdom.

Perhaps Carol will yet again play a significant role in saving her friends despite her best efforts to leave the group in the last season of The Walking Dead.

According to The Wrap, Dwight will play a significant role as part of Negan’s crew. However, his alliance may be questionable:

“Dwight is one of Negan’s Saviors, who had a few brief encounters with Daryl back in Season 6. But in Season 7 the character, played by Austin Amelio, is going to play a bigger role as The Saviors become a full-time part of The Walking Dead landscape. The big question is whether Dwight will stay loyal to Negan, or his previous attempt to escape Negan’s clutches foreshadows an alliance with Rick.”

The Walking Dead’s showrunner has hinted that there will be another cliffhanger at the end of season 7.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman discussed the controversial end of Season 6 that angered fans who reacted negatively to the Negan cliffhanger:

“A lot of the responses were like, ‘Ah, these jerks trying to pull one over on us,’ and it’s like, ‘No. It’s all done in an effort to keep you entertained,'” Kirkman said. “I think as a creative person I have to acknowledge that all responses are valid, so I definitely have to take note that there’s a seemingly significant portion of the audience that wasn’t happy with that direction.”
