Kristen Stewart On Why Her Relationship With Robert Pattinson Failed, Opens About Girlfriend Alicia Cargile

Five years since the last Twilight movie came out and fans can still not get enough of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. While the two have had several relationships since their split in 2013, some people are still hoping for a reconciliation between the two stars.

In an interview with the New York Times Style magazine, Kristen Stewart revealed that, ironically, people pushing her and Robert Pattinson to end up together contributed to the break up. She was also frustrated with how the media turned their relationship into a “product” for the fans’ amusement.

“People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me. It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value,” she explained.

Stewart and Pattinson dated for several years until meeting on the set of Twilight. The relationship soon fizzled after she was caught kissing married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders while she was still dating Pattinson. While they decided to give their relationship another chance, the two eventually broke up in 2013.

Since then, Kristen Stewart has had an on-again, off-again relationship with visual effects producer Alicia Cargile. Although the Personal Shopper star has been notoriously private with her past relationship with Pattinson, Stewart has been more open about her personal life as of late. In the interview, she even took a moment to gush about Cargile.

“Look how cute she is,” she said while scrolling through pictures of the two of them on her private Instagram account.

“I love her so much,” she added.

Kristen said that she has always wanted fans to get to know the real her. Unlike others who hide the ugly bits and pieces of themselves from the public, the actress shared that she wanted to be as authentic as possible.

“I want so badly to expose myself. I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way that I can,” she explained.

Although she seemed more comfortable nowadays talking about her girlfriend Alicia Cargile, Kristen can still be a bit apprehensive about sharing. She is careful about turning their relationship into another product for the fans’ enjoyment.

“How do you feel like you’re not being stolen from yet at the same time not guard yourself to the point of depriving yourself of so much goodness in life?” she wondered.

Since she has started dating girls, Kristen Stewart felt the responsibility to be an advocate for the LGBT community. While she wanted to keep her relationship with Cargile private, she did not want people to mistake it as her hiding or being afraid.

“I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive. I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”

After altering her perception and deciding to open up, Kristen Stewart told Elle that she has gotten “so much happier.” Although she is still not a fan of paparazzi, she no longer minds them taking photos of her with Cargile because she wanted young fans to see them together.

“As much as I want to protect myself, it’s not about hiding. As soon as you start throwing up so many walls, you cannot see over them yourself, so you just start isolating in a way that’s not honest. I definitely found where I’m comfortable. I don’t take credit for that,” she said.
