World of Warcraft, the popular MMORPG for PCs and Macs, is drawing the ire of the Republican party in the state of Maine. More specifically, the party has began to attack Democrat Colleen Lachowicz for playing the popular fantasy game.

In what might be the most amusing attack ad of the 2012 election cycle, the Republican party accuses their opponent of living in a fantasy world in which she has made  ”crude, vicious and violent comments” in online forums.

Not one to sit around, unless of course she is playing WoW, Lachowicz has turned the attack against her opponents, claiming that they are trying to focus on her hobbies and not real issues that are affecting the people of Maine.

In a funny statement, the Democrat proclaimed:

“I think it’s weird that I’m being targeted for playing online games. What’s next? Will I be ostracized for playing Angry Birds or Words With Friends?”

In their attack, the Republicans use a website they setup to showcase Lachowicz’s character, which sports a purple Mohawk while carrying around a meteor shard for a weapon.

Perhaps the GOP is just jealous; after all, Lachowicz has attained a level 85 playing status, which the party states is the “highest level one can attain.”

In a mailing to constituents, the GOP says their Democrat opponent spends “hundreds of hours” playing World of Warcraft. The mailing further states:

“We need a senator who lives in our world, not Colleen’s world.”

The party’s biggest content, however, is that, in 2009 and 2010, Colleen Lachowicz wrote several worrisome statements on World of Warcraft forums, statements that included “I love poisoning and stabbing,” “I can kill stuff without going to jail,” and “I like to stab things and I’m originally from New Jersey, what’s your (expletive) point?”

Lachowicz claims to have played maybe 30 minutes of the game since January as she spends all of her time campaigning.

Attacking a gamer might not be the smartest decision on behalf of the Republican party; according to the NPD group, 211.5 million people in the United States play video games, nearly 66 percent of the population.

Next up for the GOP? Perhaps attacking Trekkers and Star Wars fans or maybe social network users who spend hundreds of hours on Facebook and Twitter?
