Audra McDonald Married: Private Practice Star Weds Broadway Actor Will Swenson

Former Private Practice actress Audra McDonald married her fellow Broadway actor and boyfriend Will Swenson in New York over the weekend, People magazine is reporting.

According to the report, McDonald, 42, and Swenson, 38, exchanged vows during a very intimate and private ceremony at their home in Croton-on-Hudson, New York on Saturday.

Aceshowbiz notes that McDonald and Swenson met in 2007 when the two starred in Broadway’s 110 in the Shade. The happy lovebirds reportedly got engaged on New Year’s day 2012 while vacationing in Puerto Rico.

“Well that was just the best day ever #SadieSadiemarriedlady,” McDonald tweeted Saturday.

Zap2it notes it was the second walk down the aisle for both Broadway vets. McDonald has a daughter, Zoe Madeline, 11, from her previous marriage to bassist Peter Donovan.

Swenson has two sons, Bridger, 11, and Sawyer, 8, with his first wife, actress Amy Westerby.

After completing four seasons on ABC’s Private Practice, McDonald returned to her Broadway roots, most recently starring in the Tony Award-winning remake of Porgy and Bess. For her work in the production, Audra scored her record tying fifth Tony (an honor she shares with Broadway legends Julie Harris and Angela Lansbury) Award.

As for her new hubby, Swenson most recently starred as Tick in the Broadway production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and next appears in the rock musical Murder Ballad, which opens November 15.

Congrats Audra McDonald and Will Swenson on this new step in your journey together.
