I even like the song - the most 'typical' Bond theme for a long time (and i mean that in a good way). I'd lost interest in Bond over the years - the poor later Moore ones, Dalton and Brosnan (age probably has a bit to do with it), but the series rebook starting with Casino Royale, got me hooked (i even went back and started reading the books). Looked like it could've been a one-off with QoS, but this looks like everything's back on track - i hope Sam Mendes can find the right balance with this one. Recommend? Most of the Roger Moore outings would also definitely improve from having a slightly more charismatic / energetic man in the role. Going 'back to strings' with an Adele slow-mo is too obvious. Going 'a bit retro' would have worked around 2003 but now it is simply and solely lacking in creativity and originality. There's nothing at all wrong with having a black Bond girl but it feels a bit Tokenism. Which again would have worked 10 - 15 years ago as a token, but I just hope they (or the media) do not try to use it as one. Ditto, again, Shanghai. MI:3, Transformers and even Tomb Raider have already used the Pudong skyline as a backdrop. They are also RE-re-using the old car, it seems. I hope it's good but Bond needs to keep *dramatically* renewing itself a lot more. MI:4 and Bourne 3 were better films (as films in their own right and forgetting the Bondness) than any other Bond film has been (don't worry I am not speaking excontemperaneously - which is to say they can be compared to any Bond film from around 86 onwards, including GoldenEye) Recommend? For example, Michael Jackson presumably woke up one morning and decided he was going to pronounce 'come on' as 'sha-mone', and he seemed to do all right. Recommend? While I use the NHS, I can't use the public transport any more. Trains are always late, most state schools are shit and I've gotta give you, like, four million quid - are you having a laugh? When I got my tax bill in from 19, I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire." That's despite having studied at (and having benefitted from, by her own admission) the taxpayer-funded BRIT School. There's nothing at all wrong with having a black Bond girl but it feels a bit Tokenism. Which again would have worked 10 - 15 years ago as a token, but I just hope they (or the media) do not try to use it as one. Shame you let yourself down with that bit, because some of the rest of what you said made sense. Not sure about the car bit. He has always driven one of those, except when he drove that shitty Focus in CR. Oh, and the Lotus. The latter was fucking cool though. You can have Bourne 3, but MI:4 was cack. The track, named for the film, has received much attention and acclaim over the past week, garnering greater focus than perhaps the film itself. The British singer hinted at her involvement with the film before confirming it outright via Twitter. An excerpt leaked many days later with the full track debuting shortly thereafter.

Skyfall feels more and more like a comeback for the character of James Bond (and for studio MGM). Though the character was rebooted in 2006 with the enormously successful Casino Royale, the Marc Forster-helmed follow-up Quantum of Solace in 2008 felt, to many, like a misstep in the long-running franchise. With MGM facing bankruptcy, it felt as though Bond would never find his feet again despite his acclaimed portrayal by the steely Daniel Craig.

Skyfall‘s themes seem to echo public sentiment, with Craig’s Bond “returning from the dead” and showing that his skills may have become rusted from neglect. Director Sam Mendes (of American Beauty and Road to Perdition) paints a colorful, rich atmosphere, returning the franchise to to its classic 60s roots (complete with sky gadgets and megalomania) whilst preserving the rebooted series’ grounded, realistic tone.

The film also notably serves as the third entry in a formula that somewhat shadows Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. The first film introduced a new Bond, the second raised the stakes, and now Skyfall sees Bond returning after a period of retirement.

Skyfall opens in the US on November 9, 2012. Check out the Adele-themed trailer below followed by two TV spots:
